Hello, i bought a cf19 from US some days ago, i hope it arrive soon, i've paid the right price for it, have some scratsches and dents but it works, is a mark 1 version, the main problem is that the central hinge cover is severely dented and i want to replace it, for the cover i'm planning to ask a friend to paint it (he paints car for work) so i thin that car paint should be sufficiently good.

Is a touchscreen version, with normal touch, not dual touch. Do you think that a fingerprint reader can be installed or is only a geeky tool ?

The dented cover is mostly cosmetics. I have seen them for about 15 bucks on ebay. Not sure about your area though. CF-18 use the same one.

Since you have a 19 now these are things to consider. You can use a CF-18 battery in it, If you swap between vista/7 to xp or vice versa you need to have the right bios installed. Dual touch didn't come out till the Mk3 or Mk4. You can go up to 4 gb of ram on the motherboard. The core duo processor is 32 bit only, so you can only use 3.25 Gb in XP or 3.5 Gb in vista/7.

No problem, it have 1.5gb of ram installed, and came with XP installed, don't know if pro or tablet, is possible to add driver or software to a pro to make it a "tablet" version ?

Really ? A 18 cover is the same as a 19 one ? I mean, the shape is different, but the holes for screws is the same ? And also battery ?
And i can imagine that the dual touch is a capacitive touch, that's right ? If yes i can figure that it can't be used with gloves or stylus.

Sorry for the number of questions eh eh but you know...

The touch screen versions comes with xp pro, xp tablet comes with the wacom pen drivers. I haven't tried the whole cover, I thought you were refuring to the hinge cover as being damaged. Yep, that is correct on the battery. But you can't use a 19 battery in a 18. I haven't had a dual touch model so I can't say how the touch reacts. Did I mention how much I hate predetermined text on my phone also.

It drives me nuts. On my current phone, I can't default it to off. My previous phones I could.

OK, pherapse i used the wrong words, for "tablet version" i mean the ability of the screen to flip and rotate from portrait to landscape and vice-versa, is there a way to do the trick ?

    Why you can't use 19 battery on 18 ? Voltages problem ?

Ok, don't care about the whole screen cover, the hinge part in enough for me, i surely have to change the hinge cover, seems that someone took a crowbar and hit the hinge cover repeatedly, seriously. No problem anyway, inexplicably here 18 spares are 10 times cheaper than the 19 ones.

if I am right the 19 battery will not charge in the 18. Also the USB cover is the same on the 18 but the AC/DC cover is not the same and the 19 has an extra USB port in the back and that cover is different than the side one to

So far I have put CF-18 screen into a CF-19 (suppose not to be as bright but I am guessing the screen had dimmed over time I couldn't tell a difference, All of the CF-18 side and top plastic screen covers with interchange with the Mk1/2 CF-19, The side doors will interchange, all of them. I think it has something with firm ware as why the 19 battery won't work. It has a tab on it so it won't fit. It can be cut off. This is true with the CF-29 and CF-30 batteries as well. The 29 works in the 30, but the 30 won't work in the 29. It has that tab. If you cut the tab off the battery will physically fit, but won't work. One exception to this rule is you can use a CF-30 battery on a CF-51 Mk3 with the dual core, but you have to cut the tab off. I haven't personally tried it but that is what was reported by another member. I don't remember who is was right off hand.

The 18/19 are tablets so yes they can rotate the screen. With the right driver installed all you do is press one of the buttons in the front and it will rotate.

Thank you, no problem for the battery anyway, now i will not buy a 18 of course, and if i pick up a 18 battery it will work, therefore better that way.

For the driver, do you know what is needed ?

Ok, it should have the correct bios then, so you will need. The display rotational tool installed. But you have to have misc driver installed first.

My cf19 is arrived today, hopefully the customs taxes isn't huge, so i was saying, it arrived, it's a little tricky to write wih this rubber KB plus the english layout is different from the italian one, but no problem.

I installed winXP pro, and almost all driver, but theres 2 unknown devices still in the list, do you know what they are ?
Hotkey has already installed. And do you know how i can install the software to rotate the screen with the key on the side ?
PS what's SM BUS controller ? What driver i shold use ?

PS my cf19 is a mk1 and i already installed the display rotate application, that is now in the taskbar let me choose some options on rotation, but the key won't work...

Well the butons are still non functioning, but isn't very important.

But is very important to me to know if cf18 top cover can be used on a cf19 mk1, i mean if it will phisically fit in place ?

PS do you know if there's any difference between the lid front cover of the digitizer and touchscreen models of the cf19 mk1 ?

It looks like the physical front is the same, but the Digitizer has a built in screen protector as the touchscreen has the touch panel there. It looks like it will take some swapping to do. I should be posting more pictures after this weekend on putting the "phoenix" back together. It has a Mixture of 18 and 19 parts but will be basically a Mk2 19 digitizer. I will see if the 18 top will mate to the 19 bottom while I have parts everywhere.

Yes, this just because i can buy here a 19 digitizer lid for cheap, while the 19 touch lid is about 4 times the price, if there's only a windows of plastic or glass, i can simply remove it to make room for housing the touch panel, what's your toughts ?

Ok, i think i got it. Now it works fine, i had to remore all drivers and reinstall them in the right sequence. Now it will show the virtual KB (that is very little), push enter, rotate the screen and lock the session with password
Now i only need to fix the covers that are severely dented.
