Very nice job! Looks fantastic!

Were there other speaker options you concidered to use other than the Fujitsu p7010 Speakers?
-
The single mono speaker in the cf-18 is Bad. -
Question
Do you have a stereo input for the speakers, or are they wired for mono use?
Alex -
ummm does that make sense ??? -
SerialModder -
Looking GOOD!
Of course your water-resistance is compromised a bit, but a bit of clear silicone SHOULD fix that.
Save yourself some hassle & look on eBay for a cheap set of USB powered speakers like the Dell a225 or ax210 - they use a high-efficiency 600mWx2 IC that will run quite happily off of any readily available 5V/500mA source.

EFFF-EMMM... FM's got no static, no static at all... -
Yes, it makes sence
Even if they were hooked up mono they will be a huge inprovement over the bottom mounted speaker

I was serching for some speaker alternatives and found the following sites:

I hope these can help you and other in similar future mods. -
Hi mnementh
Thanks for the advice i did order some small usb powered Trust speakers but they would trip a warning from the usb port that they were using more than 500mA, the sound quality was not that grate. plus the amp board was to bulky i.e. not smt.
After some looking round i ordered this tiny SMT amp IC but its currently still in the packet. Awaiting time. This is the link
http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/searchBrowseAction.html?method=searchProducts&searchTerm=651-1118
This thing is tiny ( about the size of my little finger nail ) and will test my soldering skills to the max.
Everything needs to be very small as i intend to pack a lot in.
When i have made more progress i will post lots more pics. -
What do you intend to use for you PCB design? Eagle? I've used theirs for single-layer & Omni-Fab for multi-layer; though I'm sure Eagle has a multi-layer version in freeware/discountware by now.
Are you trying to mount the amp inside the LCD Bezel? Is that why you're going to so much trouble?

Feeding the insanity... -
Serial.... WAY TO GO! Looks like you do very quality work!
I was tearing apart some carcasses of some various laptop bottoms... removing screws... Deciding what parts I wanted to keep.... I tore off a set of speakers almost exactly like that. I clipped the connector off to throw it in my pile of stuff like that.... Then realized what they were... No biggy.... Just lived and learned...
Agian... A VERY mice looking mod! -
The good thing about connectors is they are easy to put back on
Nice work so far -
I have a lot of stuff i intend to pack in so the smaller the better. -

Wooh...Hot... HOT... HOT!!! -
So took your advice and found a small amp circuit ready made inside a Nokia battery powered speaker. (Model MD-8) it uses this chip which has similar spec to the chip i have.
http://www.standardics.nxp.com/products/sa/datasheet/sa58670.pdf
The PCB measures approx 45mm x 35mm x 5mm
so should shoe horn in somewhere.
By the way do you know anything about Picaxe microcontrollers? i was hoping to use one in conjunction with some small back-lit push buttons to turn the various usb hub powered items on and off (push on push off) may need some help in writing the code -
As for the Picaxe... I've never been much of a programming guy; more hardware oriented. Sorry.

Of course, we could just smash it with a rock when we want it to stop... -
Just wanted to know if there were any updates on this mod?
