That's a pretty good deal, thanks for the find.

The prices are a bit higher, but right now NewEgg has a small deal on Caviar Black drives as well. The coupon might work with it as well, I'm not sure.

From my understanding, all of the Black drives have more cache and twice the embedded processing power. And the larger drives (705GB+) secure both ends of the mechanical shaft to provide a little more stability (supposedly).

    Anyway, Green or Black...good deals!

Wish it worked on the black. I ordered one today (from Newegg). The code works on green only.

Yeah, well - I'm using a 1/4TB Green drive as expansion on my Time Warner HD cable box; I'm quite interested to see how my capacity blooms once I plug in that 1TB drive. My son will be happy; I no longer need to delete all his Jane & the Dragon-ses so I can save his immersive Spanish from PBS...

I don't understand why you would want a "black drive" - What is the advantage to this drive from the dark side? - Is the "green drive" not as good because they are trying to help the earth?

Green drive == variable RPM, less onboard cache. It powers down when it feels like to save energy.

Plus the black has a better onboard processor.

I like to buy the retail hard drives. They come with a better warranty. I think this drive is only 30 days. OEM.

This is correct... OEM is 30 days with the manufacturer, otherwise you have to go through whoever you bought it from (ASI for example) for warranty work... I say screw OEM providers like ASI and Synnex - Just use them as a distributer but buy retail drives.

OEM drives work better for people that buy hundreds of thousands or millions of drives (Dell or HP for example)... they save themselves $3/drive and sell a million drives they just saved them selves $3,000,000 dollars!!

Just because it's in a plastic bag from newegg doesn't mean that it's OEM... On a side note... what I previously said it true for most case's... I have seen OEM stuff with 1 year warranties and 3 year warrantys as well so that might have been the case for you ice.

    Peace

If you guys missed this deal the first time around, Newegg's running it again; $99 w/free shipping, plus promo code EMCLRMR23 knocks it down to 89.99!

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...L041409-_-InternalHardDrives-_-L0A-_-22136317

Yes, it's OEM/BULK (NOT Recertified), yes you get 30 days warranty from Newegg, 3 years from WD:

    http://support.wdc.com/warranty/policy.asp#policy

I have one of these plugged into my Scientific Atlanta 8300/8240 HD DVDR; it runs cool, quiet & glitch-free. I went from 78% full down to 13% when I added this drive - YIPPEE!
