Can someone here who knows the history better then me tell me when mk1, mk2, mk3 for CF30 came out, and how long ago did cf28, cf29 come out...

maybe I can establish a guesstimate of when either mk4 for cf30 will come out or straight up cf31. Seems like the mk3 has been out for a while and I would hate buying such an expensive laptop and see it updated 1 month later,

    thanks guys - Dominik

The first of the Panasonic Toughbook CF-30 units that fall under the Mark 1 category were released in December of 2006 up until September of 2008. The Mark 2 units were first released in August of 2007 with the last ones in November of 2008. The Mark 3 units were then launched in December of 2008 in North America, and January of 2009 in Europe. According to the report I have there were 789 different models of Panasonic Toughbook CF-30 released from their inception to January of 2009.

Some of the Toughbook community repair and sales guys populate this forum and monitor what is being said. Perhaps one of them will chime in and provide us with some insight on what's on the horizon.

It also depends on the release of new CPU,
    MK1-2400
    MK2-7500
    MK3-9300

I agree with Tango.....seems to depend on CPU and Chipsets....advances in LCD (or maybe LED), Storage (SSD as standard), new Wireless standards or maybe a update/addition to the MIL STD.

BTW....why ask in a forum on a issue that Panasonic can only answer?

You may also want to note that Panasonic generally creates a new Mark after the product has been in service for at least a year to a year and a half. The Mark 3 models just debuted earlier this year/the end of the last one. You may also consider that the Panasonic Toughbook CF-28 had went up to Mark 3, and the CF-29 went up to Mark 5.

1st off Panny isn't going to say diddly about what's on the great horizon. That's a big no no.

I bet that Panasonic, just like alot of other manufactures, have a pre determined figure of how much they need to profit off of an item. You take in all the cost involed, then you have to make a certain percentage from that. The auto industry does this on every car model.

As Toyo says, Panasonic will not give out any info and so it would only be a guess at this point at release of a mk4 or a new cf31?

I used to work for Sony , so I know something about electronics manufacturers
I do know that there is usualy a fixed number of units made in each mk #
When they sell all the units in that run they redesign/upgrade and start a new production run
When the upgrade/new model is released depends on how fast they sell the units that they have made in the mk-3
