Strappity. -
I just wonder how many of those they sale a year? You know the cost of manufacturing, development, testing and all that has got to be expensive. I have never seen anyone with one of these brands. There just must be a huge profit percentage in them. I know Panny makes a huge % in these. Have you ever gone to Intels site and looked up what the unit price is on 1K units of a CPU Chip? It is nothing, and just think what Panny pays is even lower.
Now I realize there is alot more to these than the guts. The case, screen, etc. I imagine the time frame in how long until a model is retired depends upon the cost to return ratio. -
They don't have to worry about making a better product or competing for sales; they make it because they have contracts to make it at Defense Contractor prices and no one else is going to get those contracts.
I'm sure you'll see them in the hands of Blackwater mercenaries all over the world.

Loved the final episode where Jake Green and Robert Hawkins are escorted in the embassy jet to Republic of Texas capitol San Antonio by the Texas Air National Guard F-16s!
"Jake Green, this is Col. Thompson, Texas Air National Guard. I have orders direct from Governor Todd to see to it you arrive safely in San Antonio."
"Roger that Texas ANG!"
"Son, I don't know what you're carrying, but it better be good, because I think I just declared war on Cheyenne."
(The TxANG fighters had just shot down Allied States of America F-15s that were chasing the embassy jet.) -
Well... the $400 hammer and the $200 ashtray really DID have to meet some special requirements; they were NOT off the shelf from Home Despot. (As much as I hate government waste myself, I have to admit it)
The toilet seats, unfortunately, were in fact plain old ordinary American Standard; $60 each retail.
