My screen just cracked and its not covered by warranty. I carry My toughbook CF-52 ina pelican case most times and in my backpack other times. It was in my backpack today and when when I opened it at work the screen was cracked in the cupper right corner. Thats a thousand dollar screen i bet..... I'm so bummed.
So the guy on the phone said if i had bought further warranty protection it would be covered.I thought the warranty would cover it, thats why it cost 3000 right? So there ya go. If anyone knows of a cheap replacement that would help. Otherwise i guess ill just buy a....arrrg DELL :(

Panasonic is right. Normal warranties doesn't extend to LCD damage. You have to buy a separate LCD warranty. In general, it's a much better idea to buy a new laptop over sending your laptop for repair. But you should check ebay for a replacement LCD screen and try to fix it yourself.

I looked on ebay just now and i guess thats my only option. I'm going to phone panasonic for a quote but I'm not too optimistic about that. 100-200 for an LED LCD sounds better. I'm going to start digging for a wiring diagram. thanks

The lcd's for most laptops are quite reasonable
And are not that hard to change
See if you can find the manufacturer name for the lcd
( The toughbooks use various brands)

Just an update. I never did sell My Toughbook. I finally found a compatible replacement screen on Ebay! Its a Glossy screen too. I like glossy screens i dont mind the glare. Glare is better than Blue, Sunlight my @$$ readable standard toughbook screens. It should be here soon and hopefully IS compatible.

I'm late to this party, but who is this clown, and what are they doing in the section full of people who solder stuff in their laptops?

I was late to the party too... But THIS is the clown that I noticed!

Personally... My thought was that if you have to have a Pelican case... You need a fully rugged and NOT a business rugged laptop! Otherwise... What do you expect. I have known people to fling their CF-28s, 29s and 30s across the room in order to "prove" to their friends that they have a tough laptop... Then pour beer all over and then finally have their fat friends jump up and down on it.... (Is he STILL a member here I wonder? ;)).... And the screen never cracked....

Get a fully rugged model and love life and worry less....

Or take 10 minutes and change your screen with one from ebay....

I like my cf-52 widescreen way to much to go back to a CF-28. I think it was just a fluke It feels almost as rugged as my last cf-28( I wouldnt stand on it though). I used this laptop all summer in the sand and rain and never had a problem. It was a mop handle that some dork at work knocked into my screen that did it in. Now that ive found cheap replacement screens $79 for low res. $200 for High res I'm not worried about it anymore. Everything is OK.

How did you find a replacement part #?
Where did you find the replacement lcd?
You are going to replace it with a high res screen to keep it original?

I found one on Ebay... I didnt open the bezel yet so i don't know the part number actually. They just advertised as compatible. So hopefully it works out. I bought a GLOSSY high res 1920*????. I like them a bit better for watching movies and playing games. I don't think there is any pixel warranty or maybe not any warranty. Does any one have experience with Ebay screens?

I installed my new screen today. Is it ever nice, If you like glossy screens.
It wasn't an exact fit either. I had to dremel off some tangs which took a long time because it kept heating up the metal. The screens themselves are pretty
fragile and it was a scary operation. After swapping over cfl ballasts because the one it came with did not fit either and putting on numerous original standoffs and grounding points. The new LCD did fit quite nicely.
The front bezel on the cf52 is plastic on a Magnesium backing. The Plastic bezel was hard to remove and I cosmetically damaged it a little bit.

All in all The new LCD looks wicked and way better than new.
