Okay... I feel like a sophmore....
I just bought two identicle CF-30s. Two CF-30CAQAZBM to be exact. Aside from one mising a media bay door and the tscreen is inop... That's about it... Or so I thought.
I decided to just swap over the working drive out of one to test the other. I noticed that the wifi wasn't working. It just said, "No wireless adapters available on the system. I can go into Everest and see the card. When I install Proset all over again it will ding and say that the card is found... But then it pops up that "There may be a problem with this device."
Device Manager shows it in the system but says "This device cannot start"
Anyone run across this before?

Reset Bios values to default
Swap hard drives -
I did.. and I did...
I reset to default first thing... I always do that to level the field.
Then I loaded a new hard drive with a fresh Recovery Disk... After booting up.. Same issues. -
Device cannot start is usualy a irq conflict
Disable some devices in the bios
You may have to fresh load windows
Or you may be able to change irq in device manager for the card -
It comes back saying that "A physical wifi adapter is not installed."
-
Then you first post is now incorrect?
-
THAT is what is weird about this... I see it... It shows that it is there... But Proset says it cannot locate it. I think I will reinstall XP via Recovery and try again... The ONLY thing I did on this one that I didn't do with the other is to install GPS before I booted it up into Windows. But I have never had an IRQ issue before between them.
If I uninstall the wifi card in device manager and reboot... It will show that the card is installing... Then flash and say it didn't install correctly...
I'll try a reload of XP and see what happens... -
Reinstall the driver thru the device manager using I have a disk. You know the drill..
ohlip -
And dump proset
Look in the various places for an enable wireless button while your at it(there is 3 or so areas to look), if you are not going to take the time to reinstall windows -
-
It must be a bad card or a bad connection... I'll clean it tomorrow. I just loaded XP again and the same thing is happening. I've never had a card or laptop that has done this on a fresh install.
Teo, if I try to reinstall the driver it just says there is nothing better... If I upgrade to the newest driver... The same thing happens.
Alex, I agree that Proset is trash... But I try to keep things stock as much as possible... Unless I move up to a high power card. I'll play around with it tomorrow and post back.

Maybe I'll swap out the Ubiquiti high power out of my personal CF-30 and see if that works.
This is just WEIRD! -
Toughbook, wich Ubiquiti SR-71 are you using ?
I have 2 cf-30's that need high power wifi. Using Engenius 8602+ in my cf-29's, (they work great) but would like to try something new. -

Here is a link

That's....that's....31 miles?
o.g. << 31 miles away, did you get this post? >> -
Toughbook,
I posted another thread "Toughbook - Why Ubiquiti Vs. Engenius for Hi-power Wifi" regarding this item. Due you like it or not? how well did the install go (hardware & drivers).
Didn't want hijack this thread. -
Install is straighforward... Just remove the keyboard and pan underneath... Then swap out the card. Delete the stock wifi program and install Ubiquiti's. I don't have an N router (I assumed I did when I bought it since I have fiber optic Internet) so I can't really tell an increase in speed. But it is more stable than the Intel card.

Toughbook, thankx.
Thats all I need. -
Rick
Did you try swapping cards
Do you have this issue figured out yet? -
Yup... Tried swapping out cards. I tried another stock card as well as a Broadcom card from an old Dull laptop I have.
I just loaded all the XP updates since I was using the newest Proset driver. Here's what I have done and what happens.
I deleted all wifi software... I loaded SP3 and all updates and on every reboot it spotted the card and tried to install the driver for it. Since the driver wasn't there... It kept popping up on every reboot. So once I had it all updated I installed JUST the driver for the Intel card. It shows the same thing. It is listed in Device Manager with the yellow explanation point! It sees the card, it knows what it is but I get the dreaded, "This device cannot start (Code 10)" message.
I'm starting to wonder if something isn't shorted out somewhere. Maybe I'll take the bottom plate off and look around. Too much to do right now so on the bench it goes until tonight or maybe Thursday.
I have tried swapping, uninstalling the device and software, reloading it all. Going into services.msc and disabing Windows Zero Wireless, etc... Nothing. I don't want to resort to hair pulling.. That never ends up well. -
Try cleaning the connector for the wifi card???
-
Yup... I haven't swabbed it with alcohol or put it under a magnifier but yes... I've brushed it with a dry toothbrush... Before I cleaned all the seals.
I thought I had it solved for a few minutes... I looked at the docking connector on the back and thought I saw stuff slathered on the connectors. There was a little build-up but nothing conductive (I don't think)... Anyway... I cleaned it all off and thought I solved it... Nope, nada, nyet...
Same issue. I guess I need to take it all apart and see if there is something obvious on the mobo. Maybe a stray piece of something conductive... Check the fuses... etc...
I have my toenails crossed... And, of course, I'll keep you guys posted. If nothing else... I guess I may have a new parts CF-30. -
Does the SR71 card install into the CF-31 just as easily and with the same compatibility?
-
I would imagine it's the same deal.
I must have an issue on the mobo or with the connector itself... Still no joy! -
Just for fun, try booting a linux live cd and see what happens.
