Hey, all. I have a CF-31 (CF-31ACADA1M) running Windows XP SP3. I have had this machine for almost a year and have had no issues with it. I also run Ubuntu (12.04 currently) and have done so for two previous versions without any problems. Today, I booted up at work where we have 5 wireless networks of our own, not to mention a plethora of others from surrounding businesses and homes, but Windows says there are no wireless networks in range. I know this to be completely false. I even started up the wireless tether on my HTC EvoLTE as I regularly do, and placed it directly next to the phone, with the same results.

What is even more odd is that if I boot into Ubuntu, I see all the networks and can connect without issue. I already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the wireless adapter, which is the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200, to no avail. I am really stumped and have never encountered this before. At work I can just hook into our wired connection if need be but at home and everywhere else I use my TB on the move, wireless is my only option.

    Anyone? Thank you in advance.

Maybe Intel Wireless Proset utility has taken control. Check whether adapter is managed by Windows, not by that utility.

I'd second that probability; especially if you have an automatic driver updater program. It could have installed updated ProSet drivers which set themselves as default by default.

Oh, and you REALLY need to spellcheck your sig dewed... unless you REALLY mean to say "Often testicles" mixed with "always faithful, brothers immortal"... that old "aeterni vs aeternum" quandary again... ;)

Oh wow I didn't even realize the "testes" that's embarassing. I got the "aeterni" from an instructor in college because one of my fellow jarheads got that tattoo and wanted to make sure it was correct, so I stuck with it, but I have definitely seen it back and forth in various places. Thanks for the heads up.

As far as the wireless problem, that's even more embarassing. I have never have this happen before, but somehow, even though the hardware wireless switch is in the "ON" position and hasn't moved ever, the software toggle in the taskbar switched somehow and didn't correspond and was in the "OFF" position. All I needed to do was turn it on and voila! I still don't know how it happened, because I know I haven't ever touched the switch or done anything near the taskbar. In any case, thank you both for your input and swift replies!

Also I think it will be interesting to know, that Intel 6250 Wi-Fi/WiMax adapters are awful and buggy.
I've tried to install it into my CF-19 two weeks ago and it had same problem (no networks found) after, say, 30 minutes of normal work. New drivers didn't help, only Microsoft's drivers worked stable, but speed... 2-3MB/s :(
Tried to find solution for this problem, but there are no solutions in the whole Internet.
After all, I've installed my Atheros AR9280 back and connection is stable, speed ~15-20MB/s far from my access point :)
    It's strange, but Intel sucks.

While I can agree to some extend with that sentiment, my point was otherwise. I was just amused when you suggested it was strange that Intel sucked...

I recently tried a 6250 and gave up. I had thought my Toughbook just didn't like it.

    Thanks

Your situation is best illustrated by the rfkill tool in Linux:
    Code:
    ~$ rfkill list
    18: hci0: Bluetooth
    	Soft blocked: yes
    	Hard blocked: no
    19: phy9: Wireless LAN
    	Soft blocked: no
    	Hard blocked: no

You can replicate the problem you had, just by issuing
    Code:
    rfkill block wlan
which is a software switch, independent of the hardware switch.

    :)))))
I thought everyone likes their CPUs. And their Wi-Fi adapters were the best earlier. But 6250 changed my opinion :)
