Well, I wanted to upgrade my CF-28 MkI with the 1 GHz CPU, but everybody here told me it can't be done. So, what CAN I do with my 28? I've already done the internal wifi/antenna mod. I plan to get a backlit keyboard and a 60gb 7200 rpm HD as soon as I can afford them (The logging industry has crashed here, so were all broke.) Is there anything else I can do to her? Any programs that I can download etc?

What did you have planned for it? If all you want to do is surf/email/Micro Office, the 600 processor will work fine. Max out the ram, put in a 7200 rpm HD and don't load it down with unnecessary programs, and the speed should suffice. Obviously, the slow BUS speed will limit you, but the 28's were a mainstay for years and can still do the job if you do not over tax it. If you really are set on having a 1GB processor, let me know when you get any spare funds and I may sell you mine....

I really want to keep my MkI, I was just hoping to upgrade the motherboard to the 1 GHz CPU, but since it wont fit in the case of mine, there is nothing more I can do about that. And what about these programs I dont need? What are they? I've gotten rid of what I dont need, but some I have no Idea what they are, so I left them in...

Mostly, just make sure you are running the absolute minimum in the background. Use "msconfig" in the "run" program and see what is on the start up list. Use the selective startup option and turn off those that are not needed to boot/run touch/etc. Also, instead of a massive anti-virus program from the usual suspects, try AVG free (if you aren't already), Glary's Utilities to clean house and Antimalwarebytes for the rest. Keep things cleaned out, defragged and run what is needed and you will be surprised (in combo with my other recommendations) how fast that little 600 will go...

I'm using Rising anti-virus and crap cleaner. Are those o'kay?

Okay, I did the start, run, typed in msconfig, and it pops up files missing........
O'kay, now what?
