Now that you folks have helped me get the M34 up and running..YEAH!
I could use some help deciding what OBDII software to load up..
The three vehicles are a '97 Saturn, '98 GMC Pickup and a '99 Subaru outback Wagon... I have the interface device and it did come with some software, but I know there is some favorites out there..
Gauges would be so cool![]()

I was going to look into it, but I'm going to sell my OBD-II car in a few weeks, so I will have no use for one.
I do have one of those self powered scanners though.
What are you using and what software do you use with it? -
Lots of info here

I built an interface to talk to my Porsche, read and reset codes, etc. Pretty cool! The good thing is that it works GREAT on the Toughbook. I need a DB9 serial interface for it and the Toughbook has one. All my other laptops were too "new" and the 9 pin port was done away with.
Strange as it seems... I use 16 penny nails that I turned down in my little metal lathe to fit into the diagnostic plug. There was a schematic on rennlist.com to build the main board. I etched it and soldered on all the parts. Doug Boyce wrote the software. (I believe he's known for writing ODB software.) That is also found on rennlist as well as other places on the web. I think he also wrote software or derivatives thereof for VWs -
Me, I cheaped out and bought a used ScangaugeII, used, so I could use the gauges full time. The MPG and GPM is a kick but hoping that more custom gages will look at my Tundra transmission temp. when towing.

I've been using scantool.net's ElmScan 5 USB model for almost 2 years now with ScanTool.net v1.13. - it's a GREAT unit, but like most such software, it only processes the OBDII Generic dataset. If you want the full OEM dataset, you need to get into more sophisticated software that interprets the datastream based on a profile associated with your particular car; and I've found the hard way that Saturn uses a completely different profile than any other GM vehicle.
If you find a combination that works and the right profile, I'd LOVE to know about it...
