CF-30CTSAZBM with factory GPS installed.
Everything was working perfect under Windows XP that was installed with Panasonic install DVD.
Got a wild hair and that I would upgrade to Windows 7.
Wrote new Bios, installed Windows 7 from a Microsoft install disc, installed the new drivers in the correct order and could never get the touch screen to calibrate.
Asked here for advise and followed that advise and it still would not calibrate. Gave up and set aside for a few days.
Yesterday Wrote the XP Bios back to the XP version and re installed XP from the original XP DVD.
Now when I try and calibrate touch it does not work and gives the symptoms of a bad screen.
What did I do wrong? I guess my grandad was right "if it aint broke don't fix it"![]()

I'm hoping you do not have a bad screen. One way to test your hardware before marching forwards with XP & Win7, why not try a quick install of Linux Mint15?.
You can download the program here: Download - Linux Mint
and you can choose 32 bit or 64 bit. I would try first MATE or Xfce 32 bit and see if your hardware (touchscreen) works in Linux. If it does, you will know it is NOT the toughbook, but the operating system (xp).
Once you are all up and running again you might also consider imaging your system hard drive with something. I like Acronis, as it allowed me to make 3 copies of a Win7 upgrade from Vista onto new hard drives. Much easier than using the factory install recover disks and then getting everything installed/sorted out to your liking. Please let us know how things go from here. Best regards, Cleve -
Can I run mint live from the CD or DVD without writing to the hard drive?
Edit:
I am downloading now and will try

OK using mint.
When trying the touch the cursor moves up and down but stays to the right hand side of the screen,,

Uh oh.
Did you upgrade bios back to Vista? Necessary for MK1 and W7. Definitely set bios to defaults before running the Linux disk. And after the Linux disk reboot XP twice....or see below.
Power off re-set is indicated. You know the drill yes? The mobo could be confused.
Wait a minute I need to read the posts. My apologies.
I ran upbios the other day, installed W7 and all indications were that I was using the wrong bios. The last thing I did after much fumbling around was check the Bios and EC.I totally remember using upbios but it was back on the XP Bios and EC. Ran upbios again and things are fine now in W7.

So you are saying to upbios to the W7 version for linux mint?

I think the bad news is, your touchscreen is failing. Sorry! about that. Even if you change the bios from xp to vista or vise versa. It will react the same.
A bit of OT, I am amazed till to date nobodies still don't know how to fix this problem. People/member here that know how, can really be trusted the trade secret. I am proud of you guys. You know who you are. Thank you!
Graybeard! contact "Jeff" he can help you to fix this problem. We can not simply told how on an open forum, maybe you will need to ship the whole unit to him to fix it. Sorry, Jeff! Lol...

I have seen this happen so many times it is not funny anymore
My 30MK1 touchscreen model had a new touchscreen installed by Heartlands. It was 1 year old and I installed W7 and I updated the BIOS. A few months later I took off W7 and and updated the BIOS back to the XP BIOS. Now as most of you know (I hope) when you downgrade the BIOS back to XP this BIOS is not the same as one you did have on it before you did the W7 update. So after I did this my touchscreen was dead. I used the restore disk I don't know how many times and also tried loading it by hand (OS + drivers) and it was still dead so I loaded W7 back on it and all is well ??????
ALSO...this has happen to me on my CF-19MK1 . A forum member was very nice and fixed my touchscreen on it for me and it worked great (Thank you very much  ) but me being stupid got this idea of putting W7 on it...so much for that working touchscreen
This is happening way to much and I have a feeling it just might be that downgraded BIOS is no good...sure would be nice to have a copy of the BIOS that it came with when new. -
Just for follow up regarding the ts panel of the CF-30MK1, CF-18MK1-5, CF29MK1-Mk5 and CF-19MK1. They are all have the same type of mat'ls used on TS that failed. That's why no wonder those model mentioned has the same issue.

No.
Just clear all the secret electrics in the mobo. It hangs for two boots for some reason. Way back Teo wrote about that.
Linux will work either way tablet or touch...that's one situation. Since the mk1 has naught in the bios re:touchscreen/tablet.....the change is in the calibration numbers. (in Linux)
What I am doing is making sure it's broke.
Plus the other half page I wrote that NBR lost.
Let's see if I can remember.
L20 L17 = XP
L20 L11 = Vista= W7
Again Linux doesn't care. But I would set to defaults before using it.
