    CF-18..

I have tried three different apps and even ran "Simple GPS tester" to tell me the com port and baud rate etc but it cant find anything? The BIOS shows it is on. but other than the box on the side and the BIOS showing it how can I tell if it works at all?

EDIT... The tool shows it to be on Comm 7 at 4800... is this correct?

Dowload the gps viewer and install it. Its a free program to scan gps on your computer if it has really a gps installed. But make sure you set it on bios enable or auto. I suggest to set it to auto. There is a posility of IRQ conflict.

If you are running xp you can run HyperTerminal
    Start /all programs/ accessories/communications/HyperTerminal
    Name new connection
Connect using the com port your gps is on
    Bits per second is 4800
Hit OK and you should see information scrolling on the screen
In that info you should see your location in latitude/longitude

"Simple GPS tester" shows one on comm 7 @ 4800 baud, but I have tried 3 different actual GPS software freebies and they do not detect any gps?

You mentioned "GPS viewer"...what is that exactly?

Well, in fact the tester that I am using is finding a port, but it is not finding or seeing a GPS receiver?

This is frustrating. This looks like OEM panasonic tablet/cf-18 OS but maybe I need drivers specific to this antenna?

OK, I have found a few GPS drivers over at toughbookdrivers.com but now I need to determine what MK I have here, I do not know how to tell?

You might be running into a software conflict. Do you have the ability to switch your GPS to a different comm port? The other thing might be that your antenna is bad, or the unit is bad. If you are not getting anything, not even data stream, then the unit could be bad. First step is to verify what comm port yours is actually using, then go from there. Try using this, it will scan all comm ports for you:

Thanks Doobi, that tool shows data on com 7 @ 4800 (The other one did also, but not as fast). When I go outside it shows Status:3d and it showed my km/hr when I walked quickly down the driveway!

So I now know the GPS works, I need to find out why none of the mapping (free) software will not see it?

    THANK YOU!

Some software out there has problems with the higher com ports. See if you can switch the GPS to a lower com port. That would be my suggestion.

Well, it started to work well, but after a reboot I am getting the cursor jumping at random and clicking on things? I guess I need to get into safe mode and fix it...

ah thats windows thinking your gps receiver is a serial mouse, i had this problem,i got round it by getting to the mouse setting in control panel and disabling the serial mouse, its tricky to do with the pointer jumping around but can be done then your problems solved, ive never had any problems with my gps since, i hope you can get yours running with some software, the digitizer/gps model is soo usefull.

Golem, you seem to be on it. I did the research and did the "so that it now reads:
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\XP="Windows XP" /fastdetect/NoSerialMouse
" but that did not work...then out of the blue it booted fine?
I looked for what you are talking about and it was not in the mouse properties anywhere?
So, I reboot So I reboot and wouldnt ya know it was skitterin about again, so I did what you said and the option was right there where it was not before? So, I disable it and it stopped right then...I will reboot a few more times and keep my fingers crossed!

    Thank you all!

You are a genius! I had the same problem, shut off the bluetooth (which also shuts the gps off) and Viola! NO jumping mouse! I disabled the "serial ballpoint device" and can now turn the gps back on with no problem. Should I remove the "ballpoint device" or is it better to leave it there and disabled? Just wondering if Win XP will re-discover it in future if I remove it.

if you want to remove it as it is so annoying when you visited again the device manager with an X mark on to it. Download the gps patch and install it. after the installation you can uninstall the serial ball mouse. The crazy cursor will not come back again.

I might add, that a lot of the information being given here is XP-centric, which is fine for the majority of users. But if you are running Win-7 you may have to manually set your COM and Baud, old school style, as I did, to get it to work!

That and the "M$ Serial Mouse" Bug!

    Ask me how I know!
