I am having no joy in my budget finding a digitizer, if I get a cheap CF-18DHB22KA or the like (touch) can I do simple sketches on it, take notes on top of photos and possibly fill out forms that I want to make/import?
Some of the $425 +/- units are looking like a good deal, but not if I cant doodle where the shrubs are in relation to the buildings etc.. I am going to use it to draw where things are for my personal memory so I can stop using (and losing) paper. I am not an artist so I will not be doing "pretty drawings"

Yes, you can still doodle on a touchscreen. A digitizer would make it that much cleaner and precise, but if all you need are napkin sketches to shake your memory around, a touch will do JUST FINE. Don't stress it, get a touch.

I'll have to disagree with you on this one; as the features he wants are all integral in Tablet OS. The biggie is the Journal app; that is PERFECT for what he wants to do, and you DON'T get handwriting recognition that WORKS worth a cr@p any other way than with Tablet OS (Or Vista).
If you get the regular touchscreen instead, you'll wind up regretting it in a matter of days. Take it from someone who uses BOTH almost every day.

Good advice on both fronts. I guess I will be patient and find a digitizer and forget the GPS for now, maybe a USB thumb drive type GPS will be all I really need.
