Just stumbled across this:
CST-01: The World's Thinnest Watch by Central Standard Timing — Kickstarter
Gotta say... this is a welcome departure from the current trend in men's watches of things that look like a hockey puck. Or worse.

Why not just strap a Big Ben on your wrist and get it over with?

Days gots to be the ugliest watches I ever did see...
-
Hate the watch but the flexible LCD display looks interesting.
-
I HATE watches, but I'd wear this.....
Now wondering how I acquire one... -
I see only superficial styling here, not genuine good design... the most obvious example of what I mean is the 90-degrees-from-optimal rotation of the display. Fixing that would mean reducing display size by 2/3 or rotating digits to read downwards. Both solutions would detract from its visual appeal.
No way I can see to make it water resistant while retaining the ability to replace a cell. Even rechargeables die eventually.
The slightest damage to such a thin assembly will certainly destroy its appearance and probably prevent dismantling. If it can't be repaired it's an expensive disposable.
Too easy to copy. If it were to become fashionable the cheap clones could hit the streets before the first wave of sales was over.
Just my £0.0126. -
I haven't had a regular watch since I got my first cell phone.
-
I read the article, and they say it's designed for 15yrs of use from the micro-energy cell (supporting 10k charges), and a full charge (10min) is good for 1 month.
so no need to replace the battery, before you get bored by it, or gets scratched enough, etc.
they also say the try to make it as waterproof as possible.
what I'm not so sure about are the charging contacts that will be in permanent contact with the skin, and that could mean a lot of sweat in high temperatures.
I wouldn't pay $130 for a watch that can be so easily grabbed from your wirst, though. Maybe somwhere around $50...
The screen is nice, crispt, looks very good. If you don't mind the flashing when the time is updated (every minute).
The rotation of the screen is an acceptable compromise, IMO. Their goal was the thinnest watch, and a band that'be twice as wide, wouldn't work very well.
Of course, they could use vertical digits, keeping the same dimensions. -

What rocks my boat isn't gonna rock yours....that thing looks hideous but I've no doubt the effeminate men club will be falling over their feet to buy one.

Rob, I think OG is calling you out...
Seems to me that they have plenty of reasons to carry on... like, a cool half million reasons.

I'd wear it. But I wouldn't BUY it. -

Oh....for the record....I'm not asking anyone out, I'm not that way inclined. -
One web site says it will cost $130

Which watch was the witch watcher watching? -
I have thought I destroyed it many times over. I have smacked the crystal straight onto doornobs, concrete porches, steel railings, etc... Every time I look down with a grimace as I thought I destroyed it. Nope.. Not even a scratch... On the crystal anyway.
I buff it out once every 6 months or so... It needs to be overhauled but I really don't want to pay the $450 to have it done...
Any watchmakers need a Toughbook in exchange for an overhaul? -

As for the Rolex, I was given mine in 1987, it still keeps perfect time(defined in chronometer world as having a consistent repeatable error, not always right), and has never been in for service, I couldn't afford a tune up.
