I picked this up from the thrift store a couple weeks ago for $3 (What kind of geek would I be if I could resist that?); turns out it had a cracked plastic pinion gear on the motor. A quick Google found me a suitable metal replacement from an online R/C toy shop for $2.50, and voila! I now have a nice newish 6" electric underwater thruster!!!

Online research shows it is intended to run on a 12V GelCel battery; preliminary testing indicates that it produces 20-30 lbs of thrust at 14V from my Roomba battery.

OK... I mean, it IS wey kewl. I wish I could find some way to USE it on my car... but I think I'd need more than ONE.

So... what can I USE it for? Ideas? Suggestions?

    mnem
    Thrust-y.

Naaahhh... It has a gear reduction system in it. Doesn't run that fast; designed for water, not air. I bet you wouldn't stop it with a handful of sand, though.

Now that is an idea that has a fair amount of merit; but I fear the plastic gears inside would not hold up for long.

Ahhh... that question which has plagued scholars, poets, philosophers and preachers alike since the dawn of sentient thought.

Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? THEIR WIVES!

WalterNate plays a fair game of Cheese Checkers... but he like to eat your pieces when you aren't looking.

It IS an OT thread... besides - I figured as big a collection of twisted individuals as we have here... it would be a hoot just to see what comes of the question.

Yeah... that's what it came from; one of those inflatable JetSki toys from the TarJay store.

I'm trying to find something UNUSUAL to use it for... like sticking it up a squirrel's butt and supergluing water skis to his feet...

    mnem
Of course, we'd have to strap a ToughBook battery to his back for power...

Yeah... like I said before. Not a fan; it has gear reduction. Not NEAR fast enough for that. But I might have to resurrect the old Electrolux HoverCraft project I made when I was a kid, now that you've reminded me of it...

You see, now THAT suggestion is a use worthy of the 'Possum Lodge... ESPECIALLY if we took advantage of it's 12V DC design to mount it inside a disreputable looking old van.

WHICH suggestion? Take your pick... or, with enough duct tape, I suppose we could incorporate them BOTH into a Roadside JaKoozzi-Aid stand and charge hourly rates...

Here's a thought. You will need a piece of 6" pvc pipe, a drum, and an outhouse.
run the fan inside the pipe. It picks up rainwater and pumps it down through the top of the outhouse. Now you can shower in the outhouse. Mount it inside the van and you gots one o those fancy arvee's.
Please post pics of the finished project.

    Happy to help

Oh crikey... that looks like an accident just WAITING to happen. I can see a lot of pain, forcible removal of hair, followed by random bits of electrocution. All in all, still not bad for a first date... :elvis:

Now THAT's what I'm talking about! *Does some quick calculations* Should flow about 40 GPM... so I better lather up REAL FAST!!!

If I paint the drum black, I can have hot water to boot.... but this is TX, so maybe too hot. I'll try grey so I don't get parboiled.

    mnem
Ummm... I live in TX... what is this "rainwater" you speak of?
