I just got a new HTC Touch Pro 2 and just learning about it! It is an interesting phone with a slide out keyboard, touch screen and both CDMA and GSM radios. There are quite a few mods that can be done to it, and I am having fun learning about a new toy\tool.

It takes me back to my early days doing Batwing mods! :D Right now I am a complete noob and everything is confusing, but fun!

    Anyone else? :)

I been using HTC phones for about 4 years now but just the Touch/6900 and the 6800/mogul windows phone. I don't really care for there software so I upgraded it to the SPB Software Mobile Shell 3.5 http://spb.com/ . It cost about $30.00 but they have it on sale all the time at half price. Your can download the full trial for 15 or 30 days to try it...check this out YouTube - ‪SPB Mobile Shell 3.5: mobile user interface for Windows Mobile‬‏

I think yours is windows 6 but not sure ?

Yeah, Win6.5. That looks like an interesting App. I would like the reSkinning feature, I am a little disappointed in the color choices for little things like the dialer, I would have liked it to be a little more high contrast.

The Mobile Shell App looks nice, but my Processor is less then 600MHz, I wonder if it will lag on my phone?

I could/can still get the more advanced and powerful HTC Evo (1000 MHz CPU) for the same money, but I really want/need the GSM feature for travel, and the EVO is CDMA only. I hate carrying a spare US phone, it is just one more thing for someone to swipe out of baggage or at the screening.

When checking out your phone I came across this TouchPro2 -- Engadget .Looks like you can put android and Ubuntu on our phones.

Your phone would be a newer than mine so it should run the newer apps , mine runs them no problem @ 600MHz

Yeah, Linux is said to run well and sable on it, with the only exception so far being the battery charge indicator does not work properly. Linux on your phone... someone page Jeff! ;)

They also have a port of Android, but it is said to have GPS issues at this point I believe.

BTW, I was amazed at the hardware differences from one carrier to the next with these phones!

Here is where you want to go for any mods or info. It's probably the best phone forum on the net. I currently have a HTC/ Google G1. I run Android and love it. Other than the fact I don't have a data plan( I use prepaid). It works great and free apps are everywhere. I used to have a Palm based phone. I missed the simple reliability it offered until I tried Android.
I tried a Win mobile based phone for a while, but after using Android, I don't want to ever go back to Win mobile again. I needed to find a calender app to replace the save everything online style of Android, since I don't have the data plan.
My experience of Win mobile is akin to putting a laptop docking station on a bicycle to get GPS. It's is way too complicated to work efficiently. At least on any touchscreen phone. With Win mobile, you have to use a stylus to operate it due to the small size of the icons and fonts. I can do anything on an Android by using my finger. It is simpler and faster in my opinion. SPB shell does rock though.
I have had touchscreen phones for quite a while and love them. I like HTC's in general.
    That's my 2 scents.

Yep, this looks like fun. I just scored a PNY 32GB MicroSDHC Class 10 chip for it tonight for $72! That should help me lug some of my junk!
