I wonder why this thread was closed:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/cf19-battery-refurbishing.700827/

It had these links to battery software tools that I want to keep track of:
    http://sbworkshop.com/

    http://sbworkshop.com/sbdat110.pdf

My CF51 batteries are holding up pretty well, one seems to be very weak but I have plenty of spares.
One of my Dell's has a battery that only holds about one hour of charge and I'd like to rebuild it
with higher rated Panasonic cells in the hope of getting perhaps 4 hours or more of time. That would
be nice. Pretty sure that I have to reset the controller in it so I need that software.
I'm finding 3400 mA/hr Panasonic cells on ebay from a reputable seller at a decent price.
Anyone have a particularly good source for cells?

I'm only getting about 2 to 3 hours time on my CF51 and it would be nice to improve that also.

The software linked above is on sale, I might just buy it.

Any thread that has had no post for over a year is automatically closed . This is how the forum software works.

It will never happen. Dell and Toughbooks are made different. It's not really the battery but the laptop on how it's made.

I would contact the company and verify that THEY personally have reset a Panasonic battery. Bettery yet send them a battery to reset before I buy anything.
Toughbooks are notorious for impossible to reflash or reset anything.

I worked in military electronics, so it is possible that they set the protect features
to avoid reverse engineering of the products - that would be too bad.
But, I have Cf-51 batteries with only 10 - 15% wear on them, so if I simply put in
better cells I think it would work. The Panasonic batteries are quite good so they
are less of a concern than say Dells.

Right now, I want to do a Dell that I'd like to get more time on and has a bad battery.

Reading that site, you actually have to desolder the EEPROM/FLASH memory which
is not something I really want to do. I might try it in place.

Thanks for the warnings, I will ask them if it works with Panasonic and Dell batteries.

I think Shawn has a thread somewhere where he pulled apart a CF-19 battery. Will see if I can find it.

    Thanks, interesting thread and info.
I don't see why I need to reset a battery with low wear, I would keep it powered up
and just replace the cells. I've never done it before but I don't see why this wouldn't work.
I have one CF-51 battery that only holds about 15 minutes of charge, might be a good candidate.

The Dell battery on the other hand is reported as a battery that should be replaced and I
_do_ think it needs to be reset.

    I have 4 CF-51 batteries type CF-VZSU29A and I've seen a CF-VZSU29AS for sale
does anyone know what the S suffix means?

I bought another battery on ebay for the Dell and even though it also has a manufacturing date in 2008 just like the bad one it runs for over 3 hrs on max performance and full display brightness. Saves me a lot of time trying to redo the old battery. I get about 2.5 hrs on my CF-51 also usually with full display brightness and balanced battery usage - I'd like more.

Thanks for the info Shawn, how did you open the battery that you worked on? Mine are all pretty tightly closed any tips or tools that you used?

    Thanks Shawn.

I bought the CF-VZSU29AS since the price was good and it is worth the gamble to see if I get more time.

Where do I download the best version of the Panasonic battery manager, I've been using one build into another program and I don't think that it is as good as the correct one.
