Sold my CF-19 federal model with no wireless!
    I got a CF-30KCP542M , it has a Sprint card cellular modem ( EV-DO Rev.A, HSPA ) according to specs @ config.toughbook.com.
What kind of card/modem do I need to get it to work with ATT or a GSM provider over in Europe?

What card is in the miniPCIe sled? I don't think it can do RevA AND HSPA at the same time. If it's unlocked and HSPA... I may be interested!! :)

You have several options. First if you want to stick with the Gobi card be forwarned the Gobi 1000 card is not compatible with Win 7. At least I haven't been able to get it to work. I have been working with Panasonic and it looks like the drivers are the problem but we have found no solution yet. They do claim it will work. I am running Win 7 Pro x64. Under Win XP it works great. Getting away from the Gobi card you can use numerous ones. A quick search on eBay will turn up many options. I just got a Sierra Wireless MC8790 and should get that in soon. It is unlocked and compatible with AT&T. Make sure any card you look at is unlocked. I would give you more suggestions but I can't touch eBay from this system. Check Sierra Wireless - Sierra Wireless AirPrime? MC8790 and MC8790V Intelligent Embedded Modules for more info on the MC8790 card.

If it's equipped with a Gobi device (which a CF-30K should be), then it'll work fine in Europe as it is. You just need a SIM card from a local provider for the networks.

PS. Gobi1000 will work fine under Win7 32-bit (you can use the XP/Vista drivers), but there are no 64-bit drivers currently.

Have a look in Device Manager, I'd expect the Gobi device shows up under the Modems branch as "Qualcomm HS-USB Gobi.....<something or other".

The wording of "Sprint card" is just American marketing over the top of the technical wording of "Gobi modem" I think :)

The MC8775 should work just fine. What I see is that it does cover all the applicable bands.

I removed the MC5725 that came with my Verizon Rev. A sled and installed the Sierra Wireless MC8781 miniPCIe (it has GPS too) instead.
Then I went to Sierra Wireless website support and download, and I choosed to download the Firmware and the Watcher software for AirCard 881U.
I tested it and it is work for me on both Windows 7 and Windows XP SP3.
