Got a problem which goes like this....
Got home my tough book battery was dead, plugged in the charger ( universal with voltage auto detect) orange battery light came on, in a few seconds went on to power on the toughbook green light came on, got up poured myself some coffee whilist waiting for it to boot up, after a minute went back to where the laptop was to my suprise it was off and all lights gone?? Could it be fried?? Tested charger on a Toshiba i have (same socket and all) and its charging fine. Please help i'm so stressed

Universal charger most likely puts out 19v.
Toughbooks take 15.6v.
Fried is a very good possibility.Last edited: Aug 30, 2018 -

Possibly can be repaired. Toughbooks do have fuses inside. These fuses are tiny and soldered on. A good repair shop might be able to replace them if that is the problem.
Best choice is send it back to Panasonic and let them repair it. In USA it is Heartlands.

Try power pull reset first. It probably won't work in this case but it's worth a try.
Instructions in my signature line below. (Thanks to whomever suggested this (the siggy line)

Autosensing is related to the input voltage (110v /230v) so that the charger can be used worldwide...

Well it has no place to select which output you want but its written that it charges from 14.5 v to 19v. They said it will automatically know what voltage your machine needs

At best they won't power the Toughbook enough to start. At worst they WILL burn out fuses. Other people have tried them and have had major problems.
Buy the proper charger!

I understand and unfortunately i should have asked before using it, for now i was asking for a solution to the problem already at hand. After i manage to get it working most definitely i will never use the universal charger again. I have made a very costly mistake
