The new C2 is going to be ready for windows 8. It looks very interesting with a new NFC radio option.

IPS 500nit, capacitive multi-touch Corning Gorilla 2 screen on a Toughbook, w/ HDMI, USB3.0, ambient light sensor and 720p webcam included, mmmmm.... :)
also, they use a low-voltage i5 CPU 1.8-2.8Ghz this time (17w), that should keep it cooler and improve the runtime.
    you can have optional 2D barcode reader/Serial Port/VGA/Modem AND Smartcard/NFC/3MP side-camera.

seems the 2 battery design is gone - instead they have an extended capacity battery (15hrs) or standard (11hrs) or lightweight(5.5hrs) and a bridge battery (1min) in order to hotswap the main one with a spare.

you can even have an optional hard drive heater !

ouch, this can't be good: Made in Taiwan ftp://ftp.panasonic.com/pub/Panasonic/toughbook/hi_res_images-jpg/cf-c2/toughbook_c2_12.jpg

They aren't made in Japan any more!! It's sadly been this way for a bit now!

Only reason I sold my CF-52. Panasonic laptops from the Let's note line don't deserve such a high price anymore.
My elitebook 2530p felt more rugged than my Cf-52 and in some test on the internet fared better than a Y7. I've moved on to elitebooks since I can't afford the fully rugged toughbooks (these are the real ones imho) and the business line is incredibly overpriced.

I might add that I would love to own a CF-53 but its too expensive compared to my elitebook 8460p and the elitebooks has a better touchpad (important for me). Hey rob, are the fully rugged toughbooks still produced in japan?

The units are all still made by Panasonic, just by Panasonic in Taiwan as opposed to Japan.

And it's not completely this way, some models are built by Panasonic Taiwan, and some models are built by Panasonic Japan.

Bump. Any updates on CF-C2? When it will be available?

I'm going to Japan at january and thinking about buying one, but there is no info on release date and even no mentions at all on japan site.

Chances of being thunderstruck are bigger, was my first thought... :) but what do I know about this!

What I do know is that there will always be a next model, that is better/faster/brighter. If you need one, buy it. If you need the latest at all times, you better have deep pockets!

Just one curious question? why not buy a good used CF-30/31? I know I bought my CF-19 mk5 new, and I really love it. But if I would have to do it again, I would have bought a mk4 or perhaps even a mk3 max out the memory and push my SSD in. I would have saved a lot of money and I still would have a perfect working laptop.
