Has anyone upgraded their Panasonic CF-P1 3.0 CE Rom Chip to 5.0 CE Rom Chip or someone that does it. The CF-P1 is a rugged field PDA unit and I do not understand why Panasonic never upgraded it.

While i admit that i only had my P1 for a short period of time, i didn't know the rom chip was removable.
Nah, I'm sporting a Motorola ES400 right now. (yes i know people say its crap, but i like it.) -
The Rom chip is not removable unless you desolder from the mainboard.

you are talking about upgrading the OS, very similar to going from win98 to win2k.
you will need to create an image that is specifically setup for this device, with the proper drivers and memory addresses and what not.
and then flash that to the rom of your device.
Although, I have upgraded the roms on many of my phones, and even gone from win to android, what you are trying to do is beyond my personal abilities and/or knowledge. I've only burnt the roms that other people have worked hard on to get right
What you are asking about is no easy task for anyone who is not experienced in such types of programming. I encourage you to learn more, but what you are trying to do also requires alot of failed/bricked devices to perfect the image. go over to xda-developers.com, they are probably the best starting point (and have the most experience/experienced people in that area)
Good luck! -
I have the unopened restore disk, (i think that what it is) windows 2003 pocket pc disk for my CF-P1. I looked new when I got it, all the accessories were unopened and unused.
"Windows Mobile 2003 consisted of the Windows CE.NET 4.2 operating system bundled with scaled-down versions of many popular desktop applications, including Microsoft Outlook, Internet Explorer, Word, Excel, Windows Media Player, and others.
Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition added native landscape, square screen and VGA support as well as other fixes and changes to those features already present in the original release of Windows Mobile 2003."
FROM THE WEB
So CE 4.2 would get you close to what you want and was avalible for the CF-P1
I still haven't got to use my CF-P1. I turned it on when I got it it turned on and gave a message about internal battery going dead. I did it one more time to get the full message and then it died. Won't turn on. I got a new bios style battery for it to see if it will turn back on but haven't done it yet. -
Adore,
Thanks for the info, I will see if the software is on Microsofts website. Wish I could find the software that you have in a bundle because that would make my task easier. Charge your CF-P1 for a minimum of 24hrs, that is what it is going to take to bring the internal battery back on line. The internal battery charges from the external battery. So when the charge indicator turns green stating that the external is charged the internal may not be. -
thanks. I will try that out. If you can't find anything hit me up with a pm. If that does get it back to going I am going to try out one of the gobook 2's one of the pcmcia gps units in it.
