I have a panasonic CF29 i am using for car diagnostic software. I am looking to speed it up a bit and have searched on here and on google for an SSD adapter.

A lot of the threads are quite old now. I see mentions of tech tuff, and several links which are now no longer working.

Is it still possible to get an SSD adapter for a CF29? Could this machine run windows 10?

I don't know about the ssd adapter on a 29, but I'm pretty sure that a 29 will not run W10.

If there are still pics of the techtuff adapter, you may be able to find one on eBay from a Chinese seller. Make sure it looks very close to if not exactly like the original since, if I remember well, some of them had fitment and compatibility issues.

I have mine kicking around in a box somewhere here. If I ever get to it I'll snap a pic if you can't find one.

Ah well, this still on the techtough.com website despite it not being visibly on sale:

You might as well just contact them in case they still have some.

I think I have a thread on toughbooktalk where I tested a ton of different adapters in a CF-28, M34 and a CF-29. The best one for windows was a IDE to M-SATA adaptor. Just have to research your controllers as some of them had good read speeds but had very crappy write speeds and it wasn’t the SSD fault it was the adaptors fault.

I also tried IDE to SD card and IDE to compact flash adaptors that worked good on Linux but your storage memory size was limited.

I still use my 29 and M34 Mk 7 for car stuff. The 29 has my Holley commander 950 stuff on it. What programs are you using?

With some tweaking I got windows 7 to work good on my 29 and M34 but have since on the 29 dropped back to XP on it since I don’t use it on the internet anymore.

yes, none of the ide ssd are really good. i used a super talent ide........eh it was problematic. the best advice is the get a ide to sata converter. the 29 will read a sata drive with no problem. then you have a much larger and cheaper choice to pick from. the caddy will be tight when you get it all in there, you could even use one of the 1.8" ssds and help with fitment. when they are loaded with a sata drive.......it is a huge difference

If I was going to convert a 29 to SSD, I would convert from IDE to SATA then use a MSATA or M.2 drive. You will have lots of space in the caddy.

I have had issues in the past, and my son did here a few days ago on using multiple adapters together.

Try to get a all in one adapter. Go straight from IDE to the type of drive you want to use. Don’t get a adapter the. Try to go to something else with a adapter in a adapter.
