Panasonic TOUGHBOOK Monitor CF-VDL02 Keyboard CF-VKBL03

Anyone know if these systems. monitor and keyboard, will only work with the CF-18/19, or if these might work with other toughbooks like CF 28/29. Also curious if they could be used with systems like the ncomputing stuff that allows multiple keyboards and monitors to be used with one cpu.

I'm kinda curious about these, as there are some reasonably priced PDRC units out there, and for certain applications, this setup might work better than a stand alone toughbook. I've read some of the discussions here about how the systems never took off in light of mounting a toughbook on its own, but for our applications, these might work better.

This would be a basic Internet Cafe, only outside or under tents or tarps, in areas where its best to lock up the laptop.

I'm thinking in terms of mounting them in series on an exterior wall of a shipping container on site, or possibly build some sort of round tables with verticals partitioned into slices, with the actual computers safely locked down inside the container or inside the base of the tables.

The brightness of the screens should lend itself well to the application, and we could run all the cabling out of sight and access.

I ask about the CF-28/29 as I already have some of those, but if I have start looking for some CF-18/19, then the costs go up and the possibilities go down.

    Thanks,

    Sam

They should work on quite a range of models. I can personally confirm CF-28, CF-29 (older Mk1-3), and CF-07. I'd think they would work on any/all Toughbook models that have a PS-2 style connector. You do need to load the software driver on the host system to make the touchscreen work, but it is not specific to a model.

The display will work with any computer not just a Toughbook. You need to load the UPDD to get the touch screen to work. I haven't messed with the keyboards much, but I suspect they too will work with any computer, you might need to do the PS2 to USB thing. The only weirdness with these is the "function" cable, but I never bother with the special hot keys so its not an issue.

Thank you, that helps a bunch.

I'm going to try and buy a few sets, and see we can make em work.

I bought a couple of trunk sliders that came out of the local SO cruisers that had a CF28/29 dock and a Sierra Airbooster 350 (CDPD amp and GPS). They ran the touchscreen/keyboard combos until they started swapping out for the CF30s, and they just put the dock in the front on the radio console.

Do these have a back light keyboard. I looked at these a while back they were a lot higher priced tho.

Two thoughts I had on these was if they are backlight could you swap keyboard into CF29 or CF28. If not could you use just the keyboard provided you have a CF 29 mark 1-3

If all you want is a backlit keyboard to fit the CF-29, l ook no further. :)
