So my cf29 mk1 does have a cd drive, if I purchase a floppy and a 3.5 disc I can update the bios? I am Pretty sure my bios is outdated? I'll repost later what the bios version is when I get home tonight from a super bowl partay

'if I purchase a floppy and a 3.5 disc ...'
not clear on what you mean here .
if the bios will recognize a usb thumb drive upon boot , you could use that .
i am not familiar 100% with the particulars of flashing a '29 .
some comps have to be flashed before the OS is running ... some will flash from the OS side . -
I found a floppy drive on eBay for $10, I have a few blank 3.5 floppy disks. My bios is due for an update and the update program wants me to use a floppy drive, it does not give an option for USB....
-
hmmm ...
i would hold off on purchasing a drive until one of the other chaps chimes in .
the way panasonic does things , it may have to be something made out of gold plated unicorn dung and unobtainium .SirJ likes this. -
Yeah I hear ya.
I really would like to get this bios upgraded. Without the need to buy more stuff I'll never use lol. -

Panasonic does not update BIOS's regularly. Many models do not have any BIOS updates ever.
Panasonic Toughbooks are not like Dell or Hp. -
Lol! But I use it. It just bothers me knowing it's using first gen bios, which needs to be updated.

All of the BIOS updates can be found here

I got the update program, it's figuring how to do it without a floppy... I was just going to buy one but I would really be thrilled to update without the use of a floppy drive.

make a bootable usb stick
-
i meant the floppy diskette drive .

I'm guessing the title is wrong???
CF-29 MK1 will not boot from USB as sold.
CF-30 MK1 is another story. USB is in the boot order menu in bios.toughasnails likes this. -
I don't think there is a way to boot the bios update using USB. I'm just going to have to buy the floppy.

I just added "MK1" to the title. -
Do you have an optical drive for it? if so, use a program called Plop writen to CD, which will allow usb boot
-
here ya go :

Yes I do, it was supposed to have a floppy but who ever had it before me must have needed the cd drive more.
-
so , it looks like you are ready to roll .
just dl the program , burn the cd (or dvd) and bob is very close to being your uncle .
hmmm ...
is that program on the "hirens" super-suds disk ? -

Thanks for the kind gesture.
I purchased one off to bay for 5 shipped. Got an extra floppy too, just incase for a dollar.
