Hello! I recently decided that I can't handle all of the problems I'm having with Windows 7 on my CF-31, so I'm doing a trial run back to XP Pro.

Everything is PERFECT except ONE THING: I can't find the Pansonic Power Plan Extension Utility for XP... Without this utility I cannot switch between Intel Video and ATI Dedicated video :(

I don't want to have to reboot into the BIOS EVERY SINGLE DAMN TIME I WANT TO SWITCH! :(

    Help!

    Thanks

As per my origonal post: I don't want to have to reboot into the BIOS EVERY SINGLE DAMN TIME I WANT TO SWITCH!

So, are you saying that it cannot be done??

    Thank you.

That is my experience. Only 7 gives you the software switch. Things change though. Give Panny a call.

Nope! Nothing in here! Can't find this mysterious application... It IS installed. I know this because when I go to install it AGAIN, it asks "are you sure you want to remove this application?"

So now I'm getting CONSTANT BSOD errors:

    0x00000044 Multiple_IRP_Complete_Requests - blue screen of DEATH!

GAH! It is driver related according to Micro$oft, but I don't know which one it is! http://support.microsoft.com/kb/294876 - this is on Win 2000, NOT XP... :(

Any ideas guys? I tried it in Intel Video model and ATI Video mode... no avail... :(

    Thanks

*Rob knocks on wood*... I think I may have figured out the stupid BSOD error:

I had a Sony branded xpress card reader in my xpress card slot. I removed it and I think we're cooking now... :)

Did you use a restore disc? Is there any thing in the control panel or display properties? I see that the reference manual is no help with XP. These instructions appear to be for Win 7.

􀂄 Switching the GPU that is used
<Only for the model with Discrete Video Controller>
When you start up the computer for the first time after purchase, the Intel® GPU is activated to save power.
You can manually change the GPU that is used.
1 Set [Switchable Graphics] to [Switchable].
A Turn on or restart the computer.
B Press F2 or Del while [Panasonic] boot screen is displayed soon after the computer starts the startup
    procedure.
C Select the [Main] menu and set [Switchable Graphics] to [Switchable].
D Press F10, select [Yes], and press Enter to exit the Setup Utility.
    Computer will start.
    2 Log on to Windows.
3 Click on the notification area, and click (some icon).
    4 Select [Switchable Graphics].
5 To switch to the Intel® GPU, select [Power Saving Video] in [Switchable Graphics].
To switch to the discrete GPU, select [Performance Video] in [Switchable Graphics].
    Introduction 4
    6 Click [OK].
Wait until the next [OK] screen appears.
    7 Click [OK].
    NOTE
􀁺 You cannot change the GPU that is used while operating graphics-related application programs.
􀁺 Once the GPU is switched, switching to the other GPU is not possible for a certain period of time.
􀁺 When a digital display (such as an HDMI display) is connected and the computer’s display is closed, you cannot
switch the GPU that is used.
􀁺 When an external display is connected and the GPU is switched, the video output destination may unexpectedly be
    changed.

I just did a restore this morning from the OEM XP Pro SP3 Disc... :(

Still BSOD'ing... WIFI update didn't fix it :( (From Version 13.0 to 13.5)

Also, it started doing this before I installed S&T 2011 :(

    Thanks smart ! LMAO!

I think I figured out something! It only BSOD's when connected to the wireless! If it isn't connected to the WIFI it's GOOOOOD!

I will downgrade the Centrino 6200 back to the Intel 3945ABG card pulled from a junk CF-30 :)

    I don't use WIFI N ANYWHERE anyways

    Thanks :)

I replaced the WIFI card with a RealTek one and it's STILL BSOD'ing...

After I took 2 hours to mod the realtek card with the pin mod so it would work in the stupid thing! Damn Half Height cards!

F M L! I'm ready to rip my hair out! GOD!

I really don't know what else to do here... I might just reload again? :(

I've reloaded the system AGAIN! So far, so good!

Come to think of it now, I remember having a registry error when trying to install the GPS reg fix, and didn't get that problem this time.

I think, somehow the last installation of XP was just corrupted.

I am proceeding with caution with the S&T 2011 program.

    Thanks

I know this may sound stupid, but did you read the manual. I know it describes how to use the PPP in the manual. What happens when you right click the desktop, click on graphics properties, power plan? Do you have that on XP?

What problems are you, were you having with 7? 7is the most stable, simplest OS to date. IMHO :)

Are you using a restore disc? If the GPS is enabled the restore disc should apply the patch automatically.

Yes, I used the restore disc.

*Knocking on wood AGAIN!!*... I think Daemon tools may be causing this... On the new load, everything was working PERFECT, UNTIL: I installed Daemon tools (for virtual drives etc...). AS SOON AS I installed that damn program and rebooted, it started BSOD'ing on the new drive/load AGAIN!

Toyo, there are no options like that...

    Thanks

EDIT: Man, this is great, I think I've FINALLY figured out WHAT THE HELL was wrong with the BSOD errors! GOOD GOD! I worked on it ALL DAY TODAY! EHHH!!!

So now, what alternate program can I use to mount images (ISO's etc...)?

    Thanks

EDIT AGAIN: Just realized that WINRAR can do this... :D

Yeah, but when I have to work on it for 10 hours STRAIGHT AND try to get my normal job done, it's VERY HARD to keep track of what's what... Today I only worked until 2PM, and still now, I''m at the office fixing this mess!

Also, no I don't usually deal with broken machines and customers having problems with virus/wipe/reload/data saves and things of that nature. I know how to do it, but it isn't my cup of tea. I sell Toughbooks for a living. I USED to do all of what I just mentioned above about 2 years back and all the way until the day I started working at Proton, but you know that saying, if you never use it, you loose it? YEAH! True story there! I don't usually troubleshoot problems like this.

So when problems like this happen I just want to give up and quit because I'd rather sell Toughbooks :)

Also, I do load HUNDREDS of TB's yearly, but those are all the same machines with images that I've created via Ghost that are tried, tested, and true and NEVER have issues like this!

~Rob - going home and having dinner now!~

I use MagicDisc, no problems with XP or Win7. It's free. :)

Mount ISO Files - Freeware MagicDisc Download

Never had a problem with WinRAR.

So, I just loaded S&T 2011 and the BSOD came back...

Removed it and so far *knocking on wood AGAIN*, so good.

This is why I FREAKING HATE troubleshooting! WT F! GOOD FREAKING LORD! two separate programs causing the SAME BSOD... GOOD GOD!

I will reload Windows 7 from the recovery disc on Monday... Thanks

FWIW: I've been using Win 7 on this CF-31 since I got it new and it's never worked like I've wanted it to which is what prompted me to go back to XP Pro... Because I don't know/have any other options :(

GAH! I'm just done! So tired of working on this damn system!

You were able to switch graphics cards on the fly with windows xp? I thought that was only possible since windows vista based on the thinkpads that had this. You'll learn to love windows 7! Cheer up!

My 31 is the only machine I run 7 on. And then only to take advantage of native SSD support. I've had the XP (oe) hard drive in it for a month though. Not every program I need for my business will run in 7.

edit: Have you tried that "XP mode" thing?

You guys! I've been using W7 longer than anyone here! YES I HAVE! DON'T ARGUE WITH ME! :D

Anyways! I LOVE WIN7, LOVE IT! It just kept goofing up! A few pointers WHY I made a failed feeble attempt to switch back to XP:

    1) Every time I resumed from Standby the WIFI card would work for 3+ minutes, which defeats the ENTIRE GOD DAM N purpose of standing by! (Also Aero would be gone during that time too (Don't know if the two were related)). This made it IMPOSSIBLE to quick check something!
    2) Cannot for the life of me get NDIS working correctly with AT&T card (Or Sprint for that matter since I just switched from Sprint). NDIS is where the card will AUTOMATICALLY connect to the network WITHOUT MY INPUT FROM THE ATT/SPRINT CONNECTION MANAGER PROGRAM! That is a pain to have to click connect 1,000,000,000,000 times a day!!
    3) The touchscreen options (like: Hold down CNTRL + click = Right click), would N-E-V-E-R freakin work. And don't even say "switch to tablet mode so you just hold the click down for a right click because Tablet PC mode SUCKS!)
    4) Can't double click via a double tap on the touchscreen! The mouse has to be so precise that it just couldn't double click!
    5) NO ONE, Not a SINGLE PERSON on here knew why these problems were happening (And I've posted about all of them), so I just gave up! QUIT! KABOOOOOOM!!!

Wish me luck as I started the restore last night (after taking 4+ hours to save my data) then went to bed. I'm on my wifes CF-19 with XP (Thank GOD I have more than one Toughbook in my house).

I will go back and try to get it running before watching the Bears loose today.

    Thanks

Yes, I have tried and do use "XP Mode" everyday. It works just fine for some programs that I have that will not work with Win 7. The program shortcuts integrate into Win 7 and, other than a brief message when opening the program, you would think they are native programs.

And I finally figured out a way to print from "XP Mode", sort of.

Somewhere in the settings there is an option to connect automatically when the device is turned on. My Gobi 1000 on AT&T connects automatically with both XP and Win 7 on my CF-19 and my CF-30.

After reloading - it appears that MOST of the above issues are fixed, EXCEPT the touchscreen problem. I've gone back to Tablet Mode for now, but everything else is working INCLUDING the NDIS on the ATT card :) THANK FREAKING LORD!

This mode is changeable via the BIOS. Panasonic told me to use the XP touchscreen drivers when I called complaining about this about 3 months ago... That is all fine and dandy if you like to be able to NOT double click and NOT be able to hold down the CONTROL button to RIGHT CLICK!

Rob - running on tablet for now.

Nope! When the utility is installed (first of all you can't even see it in the damn start menu, so you have to hunt for it in the program files or util directory  ), but you can open it and SEE that it IS checked for "hold down CONTROL" + click = right click, but NADA... NOTHING...
