Howdy,
Ive been reading for weeks now, so I hope I havent missed this somewhere, but, Im looking for a list of trusted or reputable parts dealers used by forum members to pickup parts for Toughbook repairs and/or modifications.
After first checking the BST thread here, most of my searches for parts end up on Ebay. That may very well be the place to buy, but other than the Heartlands and Netgate references, where else should I look.
From what Ive seen, the forum does a great job in sharing information on products and vendors you dont like, especially vendors whove been less than candid with claims. I was kinda hoping you could provide the inverse, and maybe post your own Good Guys list, as I think it would be a huge asset for Toughbook rookies like me.
By way of example, Im currently looking for some U.FL to SMA connector cables, but who knows what Ill be looking for next week. SO, in a very long-winded sort of way,
Wheres a good place to by wifi cables?
Wheres a good place to buy HD Caddies?
Where do you buy small replacement screws or PCMCIA covers?
Where do you get your batteries or AC adapters?
You get the picture .
Thanks in advance,
Sam

OK,
Toughasnails: thank you, I'm somehow getting the impresion your saying fleabay?
Toughbook: You are correct, the bulkhead mod would be it. I got the antennas from some unused linksys routers, three of the Engenous 600mw cards from the $20. ebay deal discussed here recently, and I'm now in search of the u.fl to SMA cables to complete the process.
Mnem: Thanks, I've been watching the BST forum, and bought a drive off it the other day. In terms of research, your spot on, only I took it a little farther. I've printed out the FAQ for cf-28, 29, some of the modification threads, both manual offerings from the links, and now have them behind tabs in a three-ring binder, you know, a little lite reading during slow times at work. Binder holds CDs and a thumbdrive of all available drivers, and I build on it daily. Was thinking about a vendor section, a reference when looking to buy certain parts.
A SIDE NOTE: while on the subject of parts, if any of the mad techies here would like some wierd parts to play with, I have a bunch of AMF controller heads that are free for exploration. Each are triangle shaped, mounted on steel posts, but I'm keeping the posts to cut into school benches, with an lcd thats maybe one inch by six inches, circut board that has all sorts of plugs and network jacks, small speakers and some sort of mic, as well as a thin keyboard like device. These were used in a USN bowling alley for each lane, and I assume allowed bowlers to program scores, call the main controller console or whatever, just surplus that came with a lot of regular computer keyboards. If someone is interested in one or a few, let me know and I'll post pictures of the parts.
Thanks again,
Sam
