I have several CF-53 caddys and I would like to write on them with something that won't wear off so I can differentiate them. Any markers recomended?

For anything more permanent than that get a engraver. The little hand held ones are cheap.

My choice - DVD markers. Avoid CD or floppy markers - outdated techonology, you know...

Sharpies fade from the plastic with constant handling. I've tried. I've thought of nail polish but I don't even know if that will last.

write on a piece of tape.
Stick the tape to the drive or the heater.
Make sure you locate the tape under a "window" in the caddy.

I use a gold permanent marker on black. Black on silver. Not a fine one. Put clear tape over it if it fades.

Don't look at the bottom of my Linux caddies. That is not where I write the user and password.

I used the round numbered stickers they put on my hamburgers at Five Guys Restaurant! All my batteries and HDD's have one of these orange stickers with a number between 1 -10. I guess you could use two if have you have a whole lot. I like them because they look good and come free with the tasty charred mammal flesh sandwich!

And honestly, if you wear them out, you are spending way too much time fondling these things!

Thanks for all your comments. My intent was to differentiate the bottom of the of the caddy so I can know easily see what is inside whithout having to remove it. I have used stickers but on the bottom they wear out or rub off easily. The CF53 caddies are flush with the bottom so they are made of what I consider to be a slippery plastic and I swap them several times a day. They are not internal like the CF-52 caddies so bottom gets affected by whatever surface you put it on. If it is wet then the stickers can get soggy or writing can get smeared. I think I'll try some of the suggestions and see what works best.

Yes, but they cost money and don't come with a tasty hamburger.

is there a reason the labels need to go on the bottom?

On a CF53 the caddy fits into the bottom. There is no door to cover it. The bottom of the caddy becomes part of the bottom of the Toughbook. The caddy bottom is visible.
The original poster is looking for a way to identify the caddies while they are in the Toughbook.
