How about a Thread that reflect our hobbies a collection of photos/pictures of our modified toughbook to show others what we had acccomplished for the last few years on the forum. Anybody can publish/post their own unit either it was sold already or still on your position from hardware modification to cosmetic appearance. What would you think?

Sounds good... I need to dig up a few... I would suggest that people try to find a stable place to host their pictures instead of a "photobucket" type place so that the pics actually stay with the thread.

This sounds great... I can try mirroring this site too to my web server that way we have it when this goofy site goes down lol

Rick - I will offer to host all toughbook related images by the peoples usernames... on robsnetworks.com

As far as I'm concerned my web server is more reliable than photobucket :D :D lol

I have a few terabytes to spare :D... actually right now the site has 33GB to work with, but I can always move it to a different drive that has more room :D

I'm also working on a PHP based content managment system that DOES NOT use MySql (I hate being responsible for a bunch of database's lol)... I'm trying to get a flat file system working... slower, but easier to manage for me at least :p

Teo, from a hobbyist's point, that's a fantastic idea but I think the thread might run amok. With all the attached or linked pics, it will take a while to load, and even longer when we go off topic, but I can't wait to see what you guys have been up to.

Rick, there's Imageshack and Webshots to compliment Photobucket but none are fool-proof. Nothing beats a solid server and thanks, Rob, for offering to host the images. Is it gonna be direct FTP or have the guys email you their pics?.... but mirroring an entire sub-forum.... is it permitted?

    Cheers,
    Ron in SG

When I say mirroring I mean either an RSS feed copy, or if that isn't possible then I might make a program to do it or do it manually.

I have my server so locked down that it's practically unbreakable (now everyone is going to try lol)... the ONLY way to get into my server is via VPN, and even at that you would still have to get through my ADS authentication. Initially I gave Rick a VPN account so that he can use the FTP once he VPN's into my network, but he never used it at all so I just deleted it. Basically to FTP to my server you need to VPN to my network router first (Netgear VPN concentrator)

For now I'm probably just going to have people EMAIL IT TO ME and I'll post it up. If it takes off then I'll start creating accounts for the key people that contribute with access to their own personal folder that goes into a directory that I APPROVE first then a script will move it to the live site.

SO FOR NOW JUST EVERYONE EMAIL IT ALL TO ME ([email protected]) and I check my email at about 5PM CST every day during the week.

    Thanks :)

canuckcam's CF-29... extreme cold pictures have me thinking

When I was with Bose we did a couple of unusual demo’s on the speakers

We would take a top of the line series 901 speaker
And a 120volt lamp cord with bared ends
Then attach the bared ends to the speaker inlet terminals, and plug it in the wall plug for a about 5 seconds
The sound that we would be listening to was not a pop of a blown speaker , but the frequency of 60cycles

We would take an outdoor rated series 101 speaker and submerge in a bucket of water for a few minutes
We then shake out the water and hook up to a stereo a it would work great

    Now a challenge :D

Is there any forum members daring/crazy/ingenious enough to upstage canuckcam’s pictures

Come on you guys ,some of you don’t have Avatar’s yet,
and some of you need to change the ones you are using lately

I finally got to the point where I could post pictures of a couple of my babies. The CF-M34 is my daily carry around and is a 700mhz that I did in OD green with the illuminated rubber keyboard. The CF-28 is an 800 mhz with the transmissive touchscreen and the lighted chicklet keyboard. The color scheme is desert of sorts and was done in sand dune and khaki camo flat colors. A couple of interesting notes about the accessories. I used one of the new micro bluetooth adapters and you can leave it plugged in with the back door closed. Since I am using the only provided USB port for the bluetooth, I added a 2.0 USB card that can remain in the cardbus slot with the door closed also. Along with the USB card (since I have installed the internal wifi) I use either a a SATA card that allows me to use my SATA external hard drive (3.0 gps transfer rate!), or my 5 in 1 card reader. As always, they are works in progress, but the next project (a core duo 1.66 CF-51) is getting ready to begin. Hope you enjoy the pics! ;)

    Silvertrooper,

Very nice! Question; do the usb adapters put out enough juice for the backlight on the remote keyboard on one cable?

I have a CF-28 with a 1/8" hole about 2 1/2" in from the top left corner of the lcd through the flange that holds the lcd in. I cannot find any information on what it is for? Anyone know?

Your unit has the 12.1" screen which is transflective designed for outdoor use. the hole you refer to is the light sensor that turns off the backlight in bright light conditions to conserve battery power. You can test it by shining a bright light into the hole and you should see the backlight dim down.

Well, not really any NEED to turn it off, dewed. It only exists to turn off the backlight and enable a high-contrast video mode for use when the sun is shining DIRECTLY on the screen, and it ONLY works when similar VERY BRIGHT light strikes it. They did this so you could still use it in bright daylight; this was long before the days of the 1000 nit screens we have today. Disabling it will NOT make your screen brighter (Sorry) ;) , you're just going to have to live with it or upgrade to a newer, brighter LCD.
