So, in the persuit of trying to purchase a CF-C1 ( eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices) I get an email response from this clown when asking if he can do a better price:

We already came down way past half way.
So we're to come down $125, and you only come up $25?
    No deal, period.
We have several watchers of these & just dropped the buy now down to $1595.
    They will sell.

Best wishes on finding a better deal out there.

    - intechgroupllc"

Additionally, I send a very modest, polite response: "A simple "$1550 is more than generous, and is by far the best deal out there for this Toughbook, thank you" would have sufficed". I then followed that sentance with a "please send me a Paypal invoice for $1550" And the guy sends back the SAME response I sent him just being a total D-bag and mocks me!

Bottom line, this guy is a unreasonable and is a total D1CK! Man! I was willing to pay $25 more! Wow! He think's that there is a market or something to sell these business rugged machines, when we ALL KNOW that there ISN'T! I'm just hoping that no one buys his laptops after seeing this just because of the sheer fact that I'm GIVING HIM MONEY and he doesn't even care!!!!    WOW! I am simply IN SHOCK that people turn away money like this!!

He sells Toughbooks quite a bit from what I can tell as he has a CF-31 in stock, as well as an H1 + some parts: notebook, laptop items in wholesale discount computer store on eBay!

Since this guy doesn't seem to care to sell his products, please just stay away from him so that his stuff won't sell :)

Update. So the guy DID send me the invoice for $1550. And, I WILL pay for it, because I do want this machine and it IS a good deal...

Doesn't defeat the point that he's was a jerk to me.

Ohh well, you win some, you loose some.

    Thanks

Based on the initial exchange let's hope he doesn't try to shaft you.

Granted, you paid with PayPal. However, tying up $1550 until PayPal sides in your favor & refunds your money is a PITA.

Ummm... Rob... if ya don't mind me askin'.

Why the hard-on for this machine? Seems like a largish amount to pay for a relatively vanilla Semi-Rugged Toughbook, even if it IS a tablet/convertible...

    Meh?

    Few main reasons Dwagon!:

    1) My job is 95% in the office in my big leather executive chair :D
    2) Desktop port replicator with the HDMI built into it is simply great, so I don't have to ALWAYS unhook and re-hook 3 plugs EVERY DAY 40 times a day (I frequently use my Toughbook at work to do inventory in the inventory room and unhook/rehook a LOT (Power, LAN and HDMI for 2nd screen)
    3) 8 - 10 hour battery (2 batteries total) so when I DO go on massive networking calls I can run all day without the stupid plug
    4) Multi-touch touchscreen - JUST GOTTA HAVE IT! It's awesome and practical for all my web site stuff!
    5) LIGHTER! GAH! Every time I travel (especially if I don't have a direct flight) I have to lug the damn CF-31 around all over the airport and it simply KILLS my shoulder!

Obstacles I will need to overcome:

    1) No backlit keyboard
    2) No HDMI on the unit it's self

Benefits FAR outweigh the negatives :)

    you can add another obstacle:
    3) below average screen (vertical angles, colors, backlight bleeding/uniformity). Even a basic 15" Latitude DULL looks better.
I haven't seen a CF-31 in real life, to compare, so you'll have to see it for yourself.

I'll start looking for a LCD panel upgrade. First, the service manual.

If you would so much as read the PDF support docs "Gear6" you would see that the C1 screen is not only crisper than the 31's screen, but also higher resolution... 1280 x 800 VS 1024x768... Do explain your reasoning...

On a side note to be fair, the C1's screen is not as bright as the 31's screen...

I wasn't comparing pixel density (which is a lot higher on the C1 - 12x8 on 12" vs 10x7 on 13.3"), but, as I said, it was about general image quality parameters.

I know the resolutions on various TBs, that's one of the main reasons I chose a C1, it has decent enough (vertical) resolution to work with (for me, that is).
    I considered CF-74, CF-53, CF-30, CF-19 - which will be my 2nd TB)

May I kindly ask you to direct me to those Support PDFs for CF-C1 and CF-31 ? I only read some parts of the manual and the product specs pdf on the website.

P.S. OT: maybe I gave you a false impression: I don't do pc/laptop service for a living; even though I repaired/"refurbished" a dozen or more laptops in my spare time, and custom built all my workstations/servers/etc...

Thanks, but I was expecting something like a service manual, with panel make and model (contrast ratio, color gamut, TN/IPS, response time), not these product specs, which I read and printed in Dec.2011 when researching models.
Anyways, Circulumin, Circular Polarizer, 2-1200 nits, that make it a sunlight viewable display, are way more relevant than crispness (DPI, res.), for its segment.
That is, IMO, one of the reasons they kept only XGA for so many years on the fully rugged line, where you don't want tiny things on the display, when, let's say, you're in desert and sand is blown by the wind everywhere.
Why they kept the same (low) res. on CF-52, CF-53, CF-74 with bigger screens (14", 15.4") in a semi-rugged line, it's unclear to me.

74 panel is the same as the 29... it's 13.3" too...

The CF-52's 13" model is also the same panel as the 30... :)

And, I agree... who the HECK makes a 15.4" NON-touch screen and keeps the crappy, low quality resolution??? GAH! :(

 I think we have a winner, Z.

You mean you're using like... text entry for your inventory work instead of a Symbol or similar handheld with barcode scanner connected via WiFi? Heck, even unconnected and using a .csv filedump would be less hassle than text entry...

    *Mind boggles*

I do hear ya on the all-day battery though.
