On my CF30 MK2 I can see my screen just fine while wearing my Maui Jim's which have Polarized lens. However on my MK3 it is immpossible! You get a funky look, including a pain in your head that hurts like crazy. it pains me that I have to get a new pair of sunglasses to use my laptop?

Panny sure made some major changes with this screen.

    You are stuck :eek2:

All CF-30 models now have a 1,000 nit LCD with circular polarization technology and anti-glare and anti-reflective screen treatments to enhance screen viewability

I think your non-touch having less layers was not affected as much as on the touch-screen

You might have to get some driving sunglasses, Serengeti's that change with lighting conditions that are non-polarized

I have three pairs of Oakley's, all are polarized for use on the boat, and the screen even on my cf-19 looks funky too

When I need to use the toughbook for any length of time I have to remove my sunglasses

Alex, thanks for the tips. I was looking at some different one's over the weekend and it seemed like all the one's I liked had polarization. I will keep looking....

This brings up another question. I realize and understand the durability of the Toughbooks, but I am so afraid I am going to scratch the screen when using the touch or pen feature. I am constantly blowing off the screen because I think a piece of grit is going to get between my finger and the sccreen. I would love to be able to see how much it takes to scratch one of these screens? I do like how it is so much easier to clean compared to my non touch. The finger smudges are alot easier to get rid of.

    Thanks Alex!

The touchscreen protector takes some pressure to get it to scratch. I have done some bonehead things over the years to the screens of these.... Sometimes closing my eyes and wincing because I just KNOW that I totaled a screen. Then, to my surprise, it is scratch free. You really need something very sharp or extremely pointy to do it. Either that or hit it with enough force.

I agree about the polarized glasses. I have prescription Ray-Ban driving glasses that are polarized and it drives me nuts with my Nav system in the Hummer. The iPod is also a pain. There is really no way around this unless you get the non-polarized glasses.

I stopped by Buytough.com today and got some stylus's. Now it is time to learn how to do the pen flicks! i got the one that fits into the handle, and the larger one that is like an actual pen. The best part is he had some lanyards that have little key chain type circles on each end that and they say Toughbook on them! I snatched 4 of those babies up, I'd never seen them before?
I think I am going to be amazed at what all I can do now that I have a stylus and learn the flicks stuff....

All LCDs are polarized, that's a fundamental block of making an LCD. Try this: take a pair of polarized sunglasses, and hold them in front of you while looking through them at the screen. Now rotate the glasses (if it were an airplane, roll left or right) 360 degrees. There will be 2 points where the screen is pitch black, and 2 points where the screen is crystal clear.

    Agree Lithus

But the Toughbooks have even more in the way
The touchscreen panel and the scratch sheet

I had to remove a brand new scratch sheet once from a cf-28
Just looking at the screen it had a bad pattern, without sunglasses
It was years ago , I don't even remember where I bought the sheet from
I thought later that I should of changed the orientation of the sheet
It might of been cut wrong and the different layers were conflicting

Didn't you get the message Rick ?

Toyo invited us over to his place to watch some movies

The main problem is that Toyo will not tell us where he lives

btw Flicks is using you stylus or finger to scroll the page up/down/or sideways , and it can be configured for even more tasks

The CF-30 Touch Screen MK1 and MK2 were only 1,000 NIT brightness and for the MK3 they added the 1,000 nit LCD with circular polarization technology from the CF-19. The circular polarization technology may be causing the issues with your shades. Also all of the non touch screen models are 500 NIT. Hope this helps.

Are you saying that it might not be as noticeable on a mk-1 or mk-2 touchscreen ,as they don't use the circular polarization
I put on my sunglasses and compared my cf-19 digitizer to my cf-30 mk-2 touchscreen and my cf-30 mk-1 non touchscreen ,and the only one that was ok was the non touchsreen cf-30 mk-1

Correct, no circular polarization on CF-30 touch screen MK1 and MK2.

Here is a quick spec comparison:

CF-30 Touch Screen MK1 and MK2 1000 NIT no circular polarization
CF-30 Touch Screen MK3 1000 NIT with circular polarization
    CF-30 non touch, MK1, MK2, MK3 all 500 NIT no circular polarization

    CF-19, MK1 and MK2, 500 NIT with circular polarization
    CF-19 MK3, 1000 NIT with circular polarization

    I hope this helps!
