    Hello all

Just had a bit of a melt down after Linux did an update and I replaced my Mark 3 motherboard for a mark 5

So am trying to reinstall linux with a USB stick but I can't get the CF29 to boot from the USB stick.

I've tried all the USB options in the Bios for boot up (USB key, USB HDD, USB FDD...) but it just says No opperating system found. Have tried both USB slots.

I'm going to try with a different USB stick, but if you know better what might be going wrong please let me know.

    thanks.

that error message is just because it's not plugged into a network. When I remove the LAN option from the boot list it just comes up with

    Operating system not found.

Have tried another USB stick. Not sure why it won't recognise the USB stick. There's power to the stick. (light comes on)

boot options in the Bios are
    USB fdd
    USB key
    USB HDD
    USB CDD
    USB LS120

Selecting each one individually as the only boot option give me the same error message.

The USB is plugged in and there is power to it. (the light on the stick is on.) I've tried the boot usb stick in another computer and it works fine.

    Tried different distros. i'm flumuxed.

P.S. when it boots from the harddrive I just get a white screen that looks like a CRT when you put a really powerful magnet next to it.

have I left a cable unconnected when I changed the motherboard? It did work fine for a couple of boots?

Something is fishy. What does your new mobo call itself in bios? I'd re-check work you did before looking for new problems. (that doesn't sound right) Anyway check cables ...primarily the lcd cable.
You can see the bios screen?
Can you use a different monitor?

Did you change the bottom "lid"? as well as the mobo. There is a difference in the heat "exchanger" if I re-call.

    Good luck.

    Jeff...making up names again...

Solved this by using an external powered USB harddrive. Not sure why there seemed to be some incompatability with USB memory sticks.

Its a mystery wrapped in a time wasting enigma.

Some USB have a faster Read speed, that can cause problems when trying to boot from them. I had this problem with my CF-M34 mk3 700mhz machine. And older 8 gig USB stick i had for a while did boot fine.

But my new 16 gig USB stick wont boot. Its a lot faster in reading speed, and i guess, that my CF-M34 just doesnt like too fast USB sticks. I bet, that your CF-29 also has that little problem concerning USB sticks that are too fast.

Solution: Simply stick a slower (or just a booting.... ?!) USB stick in it. Yeah.
