So my ubiquity xr2 finally got put in tonight. i hadnt turned on or used my laptop in about 5 days and i took the back off and took the batt and hdd out and tried to put the card in, but it was a little too big. so i shaved off a little of the plastic that it was hitting on and it fit in fine. then i go to turn the computer on and it powers up...the light on the nic turns on and i can hear the hdd spinning, but the keyboard doesnt light up and the screen doesnt come on and it just seems to sit in a coma...i have no idea what its doing. the batt light says its charged full and the power and MP light are on but it wont do anything...anyone have any ideas? it worked when i turned it off 5 days ago...i took the card out and same thing. took the batt out and ran off the power supply and same thing. i just dont know...

Try on external monitor, or Check the F4(fuse) again.
-
F4? i dont know what this fuse is. And as far as an external monitor I will try. I dont think it will work though just bc the keyboard usually illuminates as soon as the power switch is hit.

Is this ubiquiti card a MIniPCI or PCMCIA card?
-
its a miniPCI

The backlight of the keyboard and the lcd backlight supply voltage has one fuse with the same circuit. That is the Fuse no.4 -
Ok so I read that whole thread and Im not sure its my F4. Its not the backlight on the screen. When i turn it, I cant see anything. The screen is totally off. I plugged in an ext monitor but I think the keyboard is dead or something bc it wouldnt switch to the ext monitor. I know the HDD is spinning and the front lights come on but thats it. Any ideas? I have been thinking about trying to find a new mobo with a 1GHz CPU on it so I may just do that...but any ideas would be great!
Toughbook, do you have any extra 1000GHz mobos? [or anyone for that matter...] -
*&$@%^!!!! Word of the day...
Broke one of the connectors...Dont know what it was for...it was on the bottom. The little chip that has 3 connectors...broke one of the receivers...soooo I guess I could replace that little chip but the rest of the mobo being what it is I may just buy a new Toughbook or a new mobo...so pissed off right now! -
Which connector is it? The two between the 'outside' pcmcia slot and the front of the unit are both 2-pin I think, and are for the speaker and the power switch. The speaker connector (CN12) is the one right beside the pcmcia slot, and I guess could cause a slightly wide card to bind.
-
Nah the connector I broke was when I was putting the case back together...its at the rear of the case...broke the 3 prong. These wires run from the bottom of the case to the mobo.
-
My mistake - I thought you meant you had broken something while trimming the plastic. Not sure what that could be - I haven't noticed anything off hand like this when I've had my case apart.
-
It sounds like he broke the connections to the keyboard. That's what the three in the back control. The keyboard illumination. One wire goes to the sensor under F4. The other goes to a connector underneath the keyboard connection cover and the other connects to the illumination control PCB.
-
yep...those are the ones TB. On the case end of the middle connector (the 3 pin one) I broke the receiver so the connector wont stay in...
And I got outbid on ebay for a new mobo/case... -
Can the connector be unsoldered easily? (I haven't looked and I'm comfy upstairs now.) Can you look and see? If so I can unsolder what you need and sent it to you. You could solder it in...

Ummm... not a task for the faint of heart...

What's a little lead poisoning between friends? -
Well today was a glorious day. For the first time in too long I am sitting at my CF28 typing this. Thanks to klboo for the mobo! It works great! I ended up harvesting the bottom half of the case you sent as it was cleaner than mine and I liked the wireless button is has on it, even though its not hooked up to anything. It came with an antenna cable that fit my Ubiquiti card so that rocks too! Now to use that cable I have to cut the HDD caddy just a little bit so the HDD will fit in when the cable is connected. I am extremely excited and though I paid for it, can't thank klboo enough for the parts!
The other part of the glorious day was the arrival of my new server...iits a flippin monster! 4 Xenon 2.0 GHz CPUs, 16GB RAM, 12 80-pin hot swap 50GB SCSI drives and 2 68 pin 50GB SCSI drives set up in a RAID 5 config, 3 gigsbit network ports, 7 PCI slots, 3 power supplies, cd/dvd drive, floppy, 4 USB 2.0 ports, 4 120mm fans and 2 80mm fans. I am really excited about it. The HDDS are not actually in, I confess. Nor are they configured in any array, but this weekend I will be sliding those bad boys in and getting my RAID5 on. Anyways...just wanted to share my computer related joys of the day!
cheers -
Well, then CHEERS, MATE!
