I purchased the intel 6300 mini card from amazon and put it in the machine. it shows up in device manager fine. when i go to connections it gives the no connections found error. i tried the new drivers from intel and have the intel proset wireless utility. it says the the hardware radio switch is off, however its def on.
when i put the original card back in it works fine. i have reseated the new card several times, its def in. i even removed the cmos batter to try and reset everything. the antenna are def connected.

You have to tape pin 20 IIRC. It might be pin 22. I had the same problem adding a Intel 5100. There have been threads about this in the past but I don't remember where they are at. I'm sure someone else can pop in with which pin it is for sure. Bets are on that it is pin 20.

I think Rob's got it on his site but it will be tomorrow before I can get to it.
here it is
Index of ./CF-30 Stuff/CF-30 Upgrade to 802.11N Intel 4965 Fix/ -
thats very interesting, how the heck was that figured out, must be a genius?
it didnt work for me, i used a sharpie to block off the pin, i went over it a few more times since the pic showed it wasnt fully covered, but it is now and still doesnt work
i dont have as many pins as in the 4965 card, but i still covered the 2nd pin -

i use sharpie to block off traces for bga repair so i figured it would work, but i guess ill try some nail polish
-
i removed the sharpie and put a thin layer of polish gonna wait till it dries
-
works great thanks,
wonder why the sharpie didnt work oh well. guess i can use nail polish for traces now. -
as mentioned it works so im relieved about that, however my hardware switch does not turn it off when its off, is that just the way its gonna be?

no it works, the wifi works i used the nail polish. however weather the hardware switch is on or off does not matter.
so basically now the wifi is always on, i cant turn it off via hardware switch -

Sorry...that's what I meant, you can't turn it off via hardware switch and not sure if he ever fixed the problem
-
ahh gotcha
that sux oh well i guess i just have to live with it

Thats one of the problems on here, they say they are going to work on fixing it but never come back and let us know how they made out. It would be nice to know...one way or another

after i reworked my mainboard, i had the wireless card in while it heated so i imagine the nail polish melted but i cant be sure
the wifi is still detected but doesnt get a signal, i tried permanent marker because i didnt have the polish and it would work sometimes and not others
sometimes it would freeze at the windows logo, i got the polish and did the trick and it does the same thing as with the permanent marker
sometimes it would have an X for wifi, sometimes signal and then after a period of time it would have the X again and rarely it would freeze at the windows logo and have to shut down manually
i am not sure why its not working the same way it did prior to it being reworked -

If you have another wifi card around maybe try and see how that one works. Just maybe the card is going.

i will do that

i bought a brand new wireless card intel 6300 and i still have issues, sometimes it works and others it does not
i tried 2 other b cards and it installs the driver but has an x on the wifi, do all cards need to have the pin covered?? -
I put an Intel 6250 card in my cf30 mk2 with no problems. I did not "cover" pin 20. I was a bit more brutal. I cut the trace going to it with a hobby knife. I did not want paint or nail polish in the connector on the mb.
It works nice. It does not show up in the bios. If you do this mod, you MUST make sure you go into the bios with the original card installed and verify that the WLAN is enabled.
I believe pin 20 is for the on-off signal. For some reason, it doesn't work with our on-off switch. Go figure. You have to pay attention for what brand of laptop the WLAN card was made for. WLAN cards made for IBM and HP/Compaq will not work in other laptops.
I was reading about a lot of fake Intel 6300's out there. Make sure yours is real. -
I had the original which worked fine and the 2nd looks exactly the same. I was considering cutting or desoldering the pin 20. You cut it on the actual mainboard connector correct?
Yea mine never worked with the on/ off switch only the BT does -
I cut the trace on a 5100??? works good .....I think I got the idea from Shawn at the time. Used a sharp knife and scraped where it had been. I may have heated it a bit to loosen the adhesive with a fine soldering tip. Easy does it.
I wonder if your polish flowed to one of the other traces when re-working?
I fixed the X by disabling WSU.
My thought on this is the Intel drivers are identified in WSU someplace and if your number isn't there it throws the X. I did a lot of reading and think I found mention in there.
Forevermore FWIW.

I suspected the nail polish had gotten on the pins, i sprayed some contact cleaner in the port and used an air duster to blow it out after 30 sec after that i cut the pin on the mobo and the card works wonderfully
soooooooo much easier than the nail polish trick although a bit risky to those who dont take risks
i actually am horrible at cutting and i cut 2 traces, so i soldered the other trace
thanks for the cut tip, now i dont have to use a ethernet cable anymore
it felt as if i had a very old laptop -
oh and yes the switch worked with the original card, but not the new card and it puzzles me as to why this is
