Project Phoenix (or can I fix the dang thing) lol.

After seeing this one on the bay I got a closer look at it. Decided there were enough parts left to rebuild it. I have a couple of Mk1's that the touch doesn't work on that would be the best machine base to use. So lets see if I can rebuild this Mk2. Win or Fail. Will it work or will i just have to part it out. Lets see what we got to work with.

It hit hard on the left hand side, twisted the original magnesium chassis, busted screen, damaged power board, damaged usb port on the side. Internally the rest seems intact fairly good. I have it apart right now looking at what all it needs. Besides taking the caddy and battery out of it they left it alone. If it wouldn't of had the "wings" on the side it may of not damaged the screen part so much. I think it rolled because the side that had the wing on it still is broke underneath. I have pulled the bottom off and pulling out anything that looks like it might short out the board. I think the digitizer panel in the board can be saved as well to be transplanted to the Mk1 chassis.

That's a tad rough. Looks like it was ran over, but I don't see any tire tracks.
Hey at least the dummy express card is good!

Lots of good parts to put in a different housing.

I don't want to be negative but I think the battery and caddy would represent most of the value of that poor thing

I know, but I figured even if it was a fail the price I paid for it all the doors were good and undamaged, the keyboard is missing one key and I can fix it with the parts unit I have, gps wwan there and working, several other odds and ends that could be resold.

Back in Bahrain headed to the rig. I did get to do some testing and the motherboard is salvageable. It would just be with out its side USB port. When I get back home I will be having a major parts swap. I have picked out one of the CF-19's I have that has a dead touch screen and will be using that chassis as my base to turn it into a mk2 digitizer.

Since I have all the 19's out and swapping parts I got back on this project. I really wanted to use the original motherboard and I got it back to working, but it was very unstable. The multi layer board took too much damage. On the plus side I got another Mk2 motherboard with a mixture of other parts I saved for this project to see if I can get them all to work. So far the list is.

CF-19 Mk1 with bad touch screen and bad backlight. I am removing the screen, screen harness and motherboard.

CF-19 digitizer harness from the original project

CF-18 screen, digitizer, digitizer pen from a ebay score

GPS and WWAN from the original Project.

CF-19 Mk2 digitizer motherboard from another project.

If this all works we will know if you can fully swap motherboards between the Mk1 and Mk2, also if the digitizer board from the CF-18 will work with the CF-19.

In a couple of days we will see if this bird can fly.

It looks to me like it was already flying.
