Have run Puppy from the cd, and like it...
Only problem is getting it to recognise and get it configed for any network device that I have!
I have tried the D Link DFE-690TXD PCMICA card, thats a wired one...With no luck... My NetGear MA521 wifi PCMICA card doesn't go either..and I have a Linksys WUSB11V4 usb wifi adapter that I haven't been sucessful with either..
A search for Linux drivers for these has been unsucessful.. Any ideas?? Any PCMICA cards that you know of that are a lead pipe cinch to work? Only semi computer literate here![]()
Thanks guys!!

I've been using a Cisco Aironet 350 in mine for a while with no problems in Gentoo. I can't believe that any of those don't work. The D-link should be using the 8139too driver, which is pretty common. Almost want to say I've used it for something in the past. The Netgear uses the realtek 8180, which apparently will only work in ndiswrapper using windows drivers from Realtek, but that might be old information. See if Realtek has a driver for the 8180L up on their site. The Linksys is a Prism2 device, which shouldn't be that big a deal. See if http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Prism2_USB_on_Gentoo helps (The instructions start to get a little Gentoo-specific but it might give you something to work off of). Also make sure you have USB networking enabled in the kernel.
Of all your cards, I think the D-Link should work with least hassle, followed by the Linksys. -
Thanks! I'll have to see if I can manage to get the ndiswrapper to cooperate

I had similar problems with Puppy and my CF-27. I read a post that gave me some gems--I believe it was from 'Doug McCormick' regarding the CF-27 and linux in general. He (and now I!) added to the boot command line: apci=off noapic nolapic pci=usepirqmask. The usepirqmask is the most important, I believe it allows the pcmcia card to use the appropriate irq setting. My linksys card with bcm43xx chipset works great with the provided drive--no wrapper. I did have problems with Puppy 4.0 and WPA and the network setup. Finally switched to 3.01 and everything works like a charm! Just trying to figure out the driver (package) for the touchscreen. I had tried about ten or so different linux versions and Puppy is by far the liveliest and most user friendly (I'm a real linux newbie).

That's interesting, I've never used pci=usepirqmask and haven't noticed any problems. Could be something with your particular kernel configuration.
I looked into the touchscreen too and haven't found much out. Everything I do have is on the drive, which I removed so can't get at easily right now, but I'll post back later. I'm also betting on the fact that since Linux doesn't go through the bios do to drive access, it'll play nice with the 100 GB drive I bought (a mere hour or two before reading about the 60 gb bios limit on here).
I'm about to redo my CF-27 as a gentoo-hardened box! -
Might want to post this in the Linux forum.
