hi all.
I am trying to extend the usability of my CF 18 and CF 30s, I want to use Linux but not have a partition setup on laptop. So I Built 2 separate usb sticks, one ubunto 13.2 and one opensuse Linux. Using them on desktop they will boot and of course not affect my windows.
Now the strange on either usb stick will not boot on any of my laptop?? I tried in BIOS USB FFD< USB CROM< USB CD<USB KEY and not one of the laptops will see it on the boot-up, always goes into windows??? The little led lights do flash??
Ubuntu I built using Rufus to install ISO into usb and make boot-able.
opensuse I used its own program to build it.
They both boot into regular desktop.????
Any info please help.

I have always had to set the bios to boot a usb hdd. then a usb key would boot....nothing else worked.

I would use a fresh and new usb stick 4-8 GB along with a great program called Unetbootin.

Hi Unetbootin didn't work on laptop, worked great in desktop. Windows 7 worked flawlessly, it has to do with win 10 and efi, secure boot. I even disabled fast start did not work.
common problem with 8.1/10, just have to keep looking. -
hmmm ...
how about :

Hi been a little while. I have got Linux to work using Ubuntu among others. Using Rufus and pen drive Linux installer. My main issue was some devices like touchscreen didn't always work but can live with it.
A serious issue is that this cf 18 cf 30 are old style bios and not EFI so the bootloader is a big issue wont load right. Also Win 10 is terrible wont let it boot goes straight to start-screen, because of its hybrid boot. haven't found solution yet.
It wont let me get into bios even without the USB stick.
The only workaround I have found is let win 10 start, pull battery and let it die, then put battery back in and the it will go through bios screen see linux stick then it starts up fine.
With Win 7 this was never an issue. probably going to get spare drive and in stall on that.
Also windows BCD will see Linux as second system but will not boot to it , even an aftermarket program does the same.Last edited: Feb 10, 2016 -
Hi I have legacy boot enabled, the flaw is in Win 10 boot process. Win 7 works flawlessly. I have done older HPs and Dells among others........................same issues. It is a flaw in Windows 10 or they just don't want yo using other OSs. Win 7, Vista never had these issues.
