 My daughter bought me a used CF-27 for Christmas. I know nothing about it. I have several questions about it. 1st, What are the slots for on the right side of lap top? Next to power connector. 2nd, does it have a modem? If so where do I connect for getting on web? 3rd, What is largest and best CPU that I can put in it? Also same for RAM? 4th, What is largest Hard Drive it will take?
I will use this in my police work!
I know this is a long post! But need info. I've ordered a manual, but hasn't show up yet.
Thank You Again David C SR

Welcome D'bass to the tough' forum.
Your best bet is get to know what kind of machine you have and the best place is http://www.modly.org, Modly is a forum member too, he has an excellent compilation of all the "goodies" you need, you will need to dig into it and find what the model number means so you can compare it with what you have, and get some conclusions as to what you can do with what you have, there four basic models of the CF-27. read everything you can about the 27s in the forum it wont be long until your educated on them. I have a couple of CF-27s which I enjoy tinkering with, one of them with a dead screen, my favorite by the way, they are good for outdoor use, in my case sailing.
    Good Luck on your quest.

    David,
Modly's server sometimes sucks. You can't pm me yet, but post your model#: CF-27xxxxxx and I can get you the manuals you need.
KK, things have been busy, I'll look for that LCD today.

dcsbass... The beeping could be a stuck key on the keyboard. The CF-27 series is rather old and slow. I think your best bet is to get the Manual for it. If you PM me your email address I will be pleased to email you the Manuals, Specs & Schematics... Then you will know everything about your new laptop!

I have all the User Manuals, Service Manuals and schematics for every Toughbook made supposedly.... If anyone wants to host them. It's a rather large file... I'd probably have to burn it to a CD or DVD and ship it out...

Everything for the MKI, owners, reference, and service, plus all the drivers is about 17mb. I've put it in a file and will email it or burn a disk. Let me know.

Cap... We can't upload it to a server and let it sit there? I guess I need to buy some server space.... And then start up my MrToughbook.com web site.

    Rick,
I gave all the CF-27 stuff to George and Rob. Its about 70-80mb. Rob seems to have taken it down (no shame) and Modly's server seems to be flakey. I'll burn some disks for anyone who wants them, but I have no way to host them.

By the way, your new picture reminds me of a certain Field First by the name of Sanchez, not a happy memory!

    David,

Yes... The CF-27 Toughbook is SLOW... They have their uses I'm sure but as a day to day laptop to do all sorts of work... I think they would be way too slow for me.

You may be able to speed things up by getting a faster hard drive and maybe switching to Linux as an operating system. I'm sure the people around here can suggest other ways as well...

    David,
Get me your email and I'll get the info to you. Unless you have a really good reason for XP, I suggest Win2K Pro. I run that on all the work CF-27s.

I never heard of Win 2K Pro.How do I get it ? Is Linux a better system? I just have a few programs for law enforcement to use. How big of a HD can it use?

I had it full charged last night and it still beeped. It also Suppose to have a touch screen, it didn't work. It also would put up something, I hadn't clicked on.
Thanks For Info David C Sr.

    David,
Sorry for the short hand, Windows 2000 Pro. Runs great on CF-27's. If you aren't used to touch pads you can get clicks you didn't intend. I'll start emailing the data later today.
