I reached for the stove damper the other night and my CF-52GUNBR2M leapt sideways off my lap. My wood stove is surrounded by fake slate. Ol' GUN hit the cement on it side with screen open. The damages were:
    1. Cracked the door on the smart card reader.
    2. Ummmmm...... nothing. That's it. :D

So pick up your dull or some other product there mac. Open the lid to a 90 degree angle and drop it 14 to 16 inches onto slate. Report back. :)

Whoa I was happy. Rates a w00h00! Kudos to Panasaonic.

I've never dropped one of my TBs, but I once had a Acer netbook that I hated so much I tried to break it in half over my knee. It had a bulge in the keyboard and rattled a bit after that. Otherwise fine.

When i was in a hurry, i dropped my Toughbook CF-27 and it bumped down the Concrete stairs. Yeah, 6 times bump. I was a bit afraight, that my 1st toughbook was killed, but nope. Only some minor scratches.

So, a CF-27 can survive a drop from concrete stairs of 1 meter.

Oh, and the CF-27 landed at the carpet. The stairs itselve were pure concrete without any parket/wood.

On another occasion, i took my CF-27 too a rock concert. I had it in a bag, and put it next to the table where i was sitting. During the gig, several drunken folks stood on it by accident.

At the end, the CF-27 still worked. Not even cracks in the screen or whatever. And i have to tell, that some off those rockers had big beer bellies and weighted more as 80 kilos.

Yeah, the CF-27 is a tough tough book !

I took my old CF-29 on deployment with me, so it took many dives. Probably the worst was when I was in training. I was housed in some old World War II era Army barracks complete with the hard tile floors and double decker bunk beds. I was on the top bunk and went to climb down in a hurry. I went off one side and the Toughbook decided to dismount on the other. Still in a hurry, I literally tossed it back up. As heavy as they are, it bounced and went off the other side. Probably about a 5 foot drop onto a hard surface both times. The dameage? Two dents in the floor. :D

When I first got my CF-29, I turned it on, checked it out, then tossed it down a flight of stairs onto a concrete slab.
Then grabbed the handle and flung it skidding into a gravel parking lot.
Then since it was dirty... I took it to the sink for a bath..
Fully ruggeds are DAMN fine machines...

WHOOPS!! Way to go Jeff! I have a COUPLE REAL WORLD drops highlighted below:

    1) Back in 2006, I was visiting my now ex girlfriend in college. I had a CF-29ETKGZBM or something of that nature (MK2/touch). I had the shoulder strap on it. SOMEHOW, some friggin how, one end of the strap came undone when it was around my shoulder. I tried to grab it but couldn't. It hit the ground HARD. The battery flew out one way and the optical drive flew out the other way (I think this is why the bays on the 30's and 31's have been revised over the years). The computer landed on a NASTY pizza which had been previously discarded by a drunk college kid I'm sure, which was in a 4" deep puddle as well from the rain. The computer was fine. I picked up the two parts, popped em back in and went on my way to clean the laptop (It had mushy pizza crust and sauce ALL OVER IT). I went into the female washroom in the dorm room and used the sink to rinse the laptop off. There were about 6 other girls with my girlfriend at the time and they were all OOGLED over the fact that I was "hosing" my laptop off! :D :D. It was good!

    2) My CF-30 broke my fall and broke my pinky when I slipped and fell HARD on black ice in my parking lot at my apt complex. I was holding the computer in my RIGHT hand by the handle and I fell. The rear of the Toughbook broke my fall and pinched my hand in between the back of the handle and the area where the mounts clip to. It BROKE my pinky! My knuckles were all bleeding too from the blow. Needless to say the computer was fine, my hand was not

    Keep on chuggin along!

My Cf-28 survived a drop from the cabin of a Scania lorry onto concrete, the impact from a hard 40 to 0 mph stop (it was on the roof, slid down the windshield and hood and impacted the concrete) and a fall from the top of a shipping container. Still works fine.
Oh, I almost forgot. One of my colleagues also tipped over an oil barrel filled with engine oil onto it. was a pain to clean off, but it survived. Pressure washer ftw.

    Great...keep it up....but this is a "semi-rugged" model. w00t!

I forgot to mention the SD card blew out from its slot on the opposite side from impact. Sailed about 4 feet.
