You will not be able to do this yourself because it has a chip in it that has to be reprogramed . We have discussed this before and somewhere there is a thread on this. There is a company that recells them....check back, will see if I can find it

    update:
The 2 below links a few have used in he past.

If you find a thread with more details on this please pass it along.

I did find this quote below regarding battery recelling so sounds like the controller can interrupt the circuit when the original cells go bad and may need to be reset. I would think it could also just be fused on the circuit board and the fuse burns if a cell shorts and draws to much current, I'll have a look when I get the unit in this week.

"I sure wish I had the software to reprogram the batteries that I have... Simply swapping in new batteries doesn't guarantee that you will get positive results. If the chip inside tells it to play dead... It' dead! Regardless of the actual condition of the batteries."

The link you posted is one of them but they are many others if you can find them. The way I see it I can pickup good used one's for $25.00-$40.00 on fleabay and get 3+ hours , why go to all this trouble ? Have you checked to see what good new replacement cells cost. I just watched a video on youtube where the guy bought 6 cells @ $13.00 each + shipping  . You do the math...is it worth it

I'd love to find a good used battery for 25~40 bucks just not seeing any available. For cells you can buy a new Dell OEM #Y0956 9 cell battery for $30 delivered and do the salvage so maybe it's worth the rebuild if the eprom is still active.

I'll keep searching for threads on the rebuild process and see what I can find.

The $25.00-$40.00 batteries I am talking about are for the CF-29....sorry about that. The CF-73 will be harder to get for that price :( .
Check out youtube but you will still have problems with reprograming it

Check the stickied thread titled, " *READ BEFORE POSTING**The Ultimate Toughbook Resource Thread*." That post contains a "Battery Thread" link, which includes information and feedback on some of the battery replacement and refill outfits (including BatteryRefill.com).

Turns out the battery was good in the computer so I guess the seller thought a 2.5 hr run time meant a bad battery, thanks for the link.
