    Alex,
Yeah, it's one of Toughbook's pictures from his hard drive swap tutorial. Note the red arrows indicating the screws to be removed. I find it interesting that it showed up on eBay just about the same day I posted a scan and Rob loaded the lost tutorial pictures on his web site.

Ebay is useless when it comes to that. (And a lot of other things too!) There was a chump seller, wesellitinky I think it was, who stole my Ultimate Toughbook logos... I reported him and ebay wrote me back saying that they saw no similarity. They look at stuff like that with blinders on! Never let it be said they didn't do the least they could do!

    Rick,
In my first post here I introduced myself and wondered what you had done with the screws from my M34 I thought I had bought from you. Your UTB logo was on the screen when I got it. I got a good deal on it though and ohlip donated the screws so it all worked out in the end. AS for bigdaddy, he may not post, but he sure is around.

Recently I ask you guys who live in hilliard Ohio coz I was ripped off for the first time on ebay. His Id "joenassa" and then now he changed his ID "itsysman" beware guys he has an item on panasonic toughbook section with the wrong specs right now. The picture was changed last night when I ask him if it is the actual photo coz the original photo is the one he sold to me. He even changed his location to VA, before is Ohio. His real name is "Joseph Wyatt". I need to report this scum bug to ebay before he got another victim again. He has four item on ebay for an auction. Sorry out of topic I guess.

BTW, with regards to the topic we can prevent this kind of thing. How about thumbnail pictures, As I have obsevre when you posted a thumbnail photo only member can access or look at it.

    Ohlip,
As I see it, there is no way to avoid people who take and don't give back. There is no way this guy hasn't been around here picking up info and tips from the group. I've seen some of his auctions before where he talks about his "massive" 30gb hard drives etc. He doesn't seem to sell much. If we start trying to control who has access to the information so freely shared here because we think that unscrupulous people will take advantage, we will defeat the whole object of the forum and that which makes this group so special.

    Rick,
Yes, that's what was on it when I got it. I think XP is still registered to "Ultimate Toughbook", I'll look in a bit. Don't get me wrong, it was a good deal, he just left most of the bottom screws out and I had to fall back on the generosity of Ohlip to have a complete computer. I found this forum soon after and in short order deduced that you were the "UTB" guy which I found odd as it didn't seem you would ship out a box that was missing screws. When I posted a question about the screws, I believe it was Modly who mentioned that the question was odd as he thought you had never had a M34.

Capt... Yup... He's taken a few of my ideas and advertises his as the "Ultimate" or "Great" or "Good" depending on speed and condition I guess. I bought a laptop from him in the past when I was hard up and needed one quick. It arrived the same way yours did. Missing screws and most of the rest were stripped. People have to understand that you can't use your Craftsman tools to take these apart! You MUST have precision tools to do the job properly. I think all his stuff was made in China. :)

I do the oeminfo.ini file as well but mine give all my warranty and contact info as well as a jazzy logo. Unless I load a drive from Recovery Disks... Then I let it stay Panasonic.

I just finished building two more CF-28s and have orders for 4 more CF-29s... I just need to get the base laptops to build. The person I buy from usually is on vacation now and won't be back for a week. I guess I'll stall the deals. I need 4 1.3Ghz, WWAN ready CF-29s.

Oh come on, what is the problem?
So he borrowed a picture of what he is selling, so what, does it actually harm you, or anyone else?

He also hasn't watermarked it as the OP said, ebay do that by default.

I've borrowed images plenty of times when I can't be bothered to take a picture and upload it etc.
He's not claiming anything false, and not hurting any one in the process. Did you copyright the picture, do you not like helping people? Just can't get my head around the problem here. No offence intended in this btw!

The problem is he used a picture of an item that ISN'T his. He posted a picture of TB's harddrive. How do you even know if it's the same thing? Could be a harddrive and caddy out of a LittleRascals laptop. Who knows? That's what the problem is when sellers are either lazy or just flat out con men. Innocent, unsuspecting bidders get ripped off. They'll post up a picture of a new item and when you get it it has cobwebs and dried buggers on it. It's fraudulent, unethical and just plain dastardly.

If your too lazy to post your own pics then you otta just go sell shoes!!!

This particular picture theft generated more of a chuckle rather than anger. But I have had several of my photos stolen and used by others on ebay. It ticks me off because I AM the one who took the time to do it. Furthermore he is claiming that the drive in the picture is the one that is for sale. It is not. That drive in the picture actually is in a CF-28 in Atlanta right now. I have had logos and word tracks stolen to be used by others. It bothers me because others may confuse MY flawless work with that of a mere lazy moron.

Do I not like helping people??? What a question from a newbie! If I didn't like to help people I wouldn't be moderator of this particular forum and spend hours out of my days/weeks/months helping others get their Toughbooks set up and shipping them out parts... Sometimes for free.

    No offense... ;)

EDIT - Okay... Don't flood me with requests for free parts now... :)

    ballin,
" do you not like helping people?" You are very obviously a newbie. TB has given away more knowledge which directly related to his personal income than anyone else I can think of. When you are a man of honor and dignity in your dealings with others you have the right to expect that of others. Look around here for the pictures of the Toughbook some poor guy on here bought from a fleaBay merchant, better, look here.
    Hacked 28.JPG
This from one of the many on eBay who imply that they sell "ultimate" Toughbooks. When you do as good a job as Rick and some others you might tend to be spring loaded to the pi**ed off position by any of these shenanigins.

Hmmmm.... I wonder where that Marine's laptop is now?

Seriously... Usually it doesn't bother me. As a matter of fact it used to bother me about the people that email on ebay asking me how I installed this or that. It is usually related to the GPS. (I remember when I started out... Ebay sellers told me to take a hike!) I steer them to this site so they can learn for themselves if they want to tackle it. A lot come back and say that they didn't know it was so involved. (Which I guess it is for someone who has never tried it.) Heck... I think I set a record on Sunday afternoon. (A personal one anyway.) I had a CF-28 that I had already cleaned up. (I clean all the dirt out/off mine first) I installed the GPS antenna and GPS board, mounted the side SMA connector and internal wifi antenna, added RAM, swapped in a dual LAN/Modem card and also the Engenous 600mW wifi card, added the rubber keyboard and the 160GB hard drive ALL in under 2 hours. I have been doing it for so long and I have all the tools and parts. I remember when it used to take me the better part of a day to get it all done. Of course this doesn't include loading the software and downloading all the updates. Anyway... I digress....

Thanks for the kind words Capt. I appreciate it.

Interesting, but be careful. While I'm sure you can find a way to power up the unit (no AC adapter and battery), there's no mention of caddy & HDD connector. How are you gonna get around that?

It looks like a Getac W130 clone. Motorola is horrible about giving support on these type of items so you may try Getac.com for the HDD cables and battery. BUt I bet you pay as much for those essentials as you did for the unit.

As already said by Catp and Jeep, TB is the man when it come to our lapys. He has always been will to help when he can.

As for some evilbay seller, I thought I was getting a CF-28 1Ghz model, had all the right pic and model No's too. But when it got here from the states it turned out to be a low model CF-28 800Mhz. After some emails later, I found out it wasnt the pic's of the laptop's he had for sale, the seller didnt even know how to check the model No of a CF model, even tho he "qouted" one. but was thankfull then I told him how and the web site to go to. Turn out that out of the 5 he had for sale, only one of them was a 1Ghz model, the other 4 where the same as mine.

He turned out to just a one of these sellers that sell item's on what they have been told they are by the person they got them off and just copy and paste that info. And was more then pissoff when I left him very bad feedback about it.
At the end of the day, if your sellling an item then you have to have the pic of the item your selling, and no just rip it of someone who has done it for there own items. If your going to make money off it then you should at let make the pic yourself or say that its not the item and where you got the pic. Its not that hard to take a few pic's and upload them.

well thats my 2 cents for the time being

Most people don't know about that site from Panasonic (config.toughbook.com) because for some reason the Toughbook world is all hush hush and noone reallly owns one so thats why us over here on this forum all understand each other and NOONE else on this HUGE forum can understand why we will never use anything but a Toughbook. All I can say to those people is: fork over the money for a good CF-29 or better yet a CF-30 and start modding away and you will know why we hate anything that isn't toughbook lol. As for the auction: sorry to hear that you got ripped off, that sucks major u know what!! Could you not email him and ask him to send you the 1GHz model if you sent the 800 back?

Rob, it's ironic that while we embrace the toughbook mindset, it pains those (looking for better-condition replacements or an upgrade), to see prices rocketing.

We work, tinker and I suppose some will collect the ruggedized ones for it's quality built but I'm sure most of us here share Tomcat's passion. The outsiders and newcomers will never understand how we can get excited over 'just another laptop'.
