Its all the same, BTW. is that spare one is a working LCD with no problem? If so, you can swap the lcd.

I believe (But I'm not sure) that the LCD in the touchscreen unit is slightly different than the non-touch... The backlight should be the same but why not just buy a new one for $10 USD? They are cheap... Order two in case you crack/break one!

So you think the bulb itself is different? what about the inverter board then? unless you have part number(s) to compare, I'm not sure how you would be able to tell since everything we get is used and there's no way of knowing how many hours of usage the backlight had..

Guys; aren't the service manuals on Modly's site? There are exploded views and corresponding part numbers in my CF-29 service manual.

    Guys-

Most manufacturers don't offer the CCFL tube as a separate part for service; they repair to board level, meaning replace the LCD.

When I replace a CCFL, I expect to have to finish it over a period of a week or so - take the LCD apart, measure the CCFL as I've outlined, then order & wait for it to be delivered.

If you DO find a valid MFR part #, and you CAN order it... I very much doubt it will cost the $12-16 that the generic replacements do.

Well, I sit corrected - tho I still suspect you'll pay a premium price for the Panasonic authorized part...

Personally, I believe there is no excuse for NOT making the CCFL a modular thing, intended to be replaced. That LCD is such an expensive part of a laptop; it shouldn't be so much of a hassle to change a simple lamp.

    DogFish -

Yes, that IS a CCFL tube; however, it may or may not fit YOUR LCD properly. Different manufacturers design their LCDs differently; for any given size LCD they may vary as muich as 15mm in length, and vary from 1.1mm to 2.6mm in diameter. This is why I keep saying... YOU HAVE TO MEASURE YOUR OLD ONE BEFORE YOU BUY.

    Pappy -

Absolutely; the health of your CCFL can definitely affect the daylight viewability of your display. Remember, a lot of the CF-28s & CF-29s we're buying now have spent the last 3-5 years in Police cars & Emergency vehicles, where they are on constantly for sometimes days on end. THEY GET USED HARD. The CCFL has a finite number of lumens in it; and while advertised life of these tubes is long, they usually rate to a point where the tube is emitting 50% as much light as when new. It doesn't take a GE Engineer to figure out that 50% less light is gonna affect viewability...

Even Heartland has to order the bulbs (not always from Panasonic though) which means there are part numbers but I doubt they'll tell you what they are. If that's the case, it will take a current tech *coughnotnaminganynamescough* to get them to you.
