So, I bought a replacement palmrest (aka "top bezel", aka "top cabinet", depending on your source) for my CF-29L/Mk4, and it looks great - pristine, in fact. Looking at the service manuals, however, I realized that swapping the palmrest is going to be a very substantial process, since *everything* on the lower part of the laptop is connected to it. This part is literally the entire top half of the laptop's base.

I'm up to the task, but I want to make sure before I do it - is this new palmrest likely to be compatible with my Mk4 CF-29L? This is my primary concern.

    On the inside, it says:
    DFKM0462 [ CF-29C-02]
    >Mg< AZ91D 04 260403

The bold text is actually moved over to the right, away from the non-bold text, but the forum won't let me tab it over.

    Known info:
"DFKM0462" is a Panasonic part number, presumably for this unit
">Mg< AZ91D" refers to a specific type of magnesium

Here's my worry - the "CF-29C-02" is a reference to the Mk1 CF-29 (the CF-29C, of course), and thus I fear that this part may not be intended for the much-later Mk4 CF-29L. The part number DFKM0462 is not listed in the generic service manual's exhaustive list of parts, or in the parts change notice. There are, however, several promising mentions of a "Top cabinet assy" with part numbers that begin with DFKM8163 or DFKM8179.

Are the palmrests specific to certain marks of the CF-29 series? If so, is it safe for me to use this palmrest in my Mk4 CF-29L?

Any insight you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Others here can confirm, but from what I have seen they are identical for all mk versions

If the parts are factory new it would not be too bad
If you have used parts that the sticky tape is not fresh ,well that might be a bit of work getting it seated

Top cabs are compatible as follows
MK1 and 2 are ok to swap
    Mk3 is its own,
and MK 4 and 5 are of to swap.

The differences, The mark 1/2 has a ps2 port in the rear where 3/4/5 have a usb port, the mark 4/5 have an sd slot in the pc slot bay.

Ah, now I see - the replacement unit I ordered has a round hole for a PS/2 jack, where my Mk4 has a USB socket. Also, the replacement lacks a slot for the SD card reader beneath the CardBus area.

    I guess I'll be looking to re-sell this to someone with a Mk1/2 CF-29!

Tomcat for old tape I just remove it COMPLETLY and then get the good 3M double sided tape found in those window film kits for sealing windows in winter.

    works EXCELLENT
