I was given this CF-29 to try as a replacement for an old lappy that was snapping off it's hinges. It came via a friend in the UK with an army brother - and was seriously wiped clean. No manual, no discs with minimal Windows XP professional installed. That was January 2012. I'm a woodsman, camping expert, so spend a lot of time off grid in rain and mud (good CF-29 conditions!) so I'm no teckie, but I'm getting there... Via lengthy negotiations to get (nonworking) reboot discs from the States - then the helpdesk told me how to do it on line.. So I downloaded and installed all the updates Panasonic had..

Latest fun: I bought and installed WinDVD 11. It looks fine. till I try to start it up. This error message came up:

Prepare Display Device Error, please install VGA Driver - OK
I have Error Code 28 in Device manager - for ALL my 'other devices'.

The VGA Driver is supposed to be on the Win XP disk. I have no disk - and the bastid won't search for it on line even though it asks for permission to search on line.

    Ideas. new friends?

Welcome to the nuthouse... err forum. Strongly recommend you try the stickies at the beginning of the first page, "READ BEFORE POSTING.....", "Toughbook Drivers & Manuals Sources", and "The CF-29 FAQ, read before posting" You might find some useful information there

If your issue is just to play DVDs, just download VLC and be done with it!

    use Start/Run: dxdiag.exe
and run the diagnosis/test, especially DirectDraw 2D. What does it say about video drivers there ?
most likely you have ServicePack 2, as Panasonic didn't ship any XP SP3.

I had a problem watching DVD's and used K-lite codec pack to get things working:
    K-Lite Mega Codec Pack - CNET Download.com
If you look through this web page, there is a link to popular downloads and the VLC suggested above is there to try also:
VLC Media Player - CNET Download.com
Thirdly, the FAQ's page in "stickies" as also will be helpful. Shawn's note above is also "right on" as it looks like Win DVD11 might not work with XP

I use PowerDVD 5 and that works fine. Even on my slower Cf-M34 400Mhz machine.

I get installed from CD attachment to computer this driver-name:
    Intel(R) 82852/82855 Graphics Controller - aka: Intel(R) Extreme Graphics 2 for Mobile

I can't say it working well but if You have time and support-tests - check it and maybe will work fine for You.
And I think older version of Power DVD or whatever it is is better!
