Hello, I am new to this forum and could be described as cybernetically challenged; but that does not stop me from trying.
I wish to rotate the external monitor attached to my cf 29. The monitor is attached to the roof of the wheel house in my boat.
My cf 29 has XP Pro, the graphics are Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME.
Here is what I have attempted:
I loaded Irotate 1.37 and it does not work. The Irotate web forum suggested using version 1.2
I have looked everywhere for it without success.Web sites that list version 1.2 all end up with 1.37. I was directed to Itunes but the application was unavailable.
It was suggested Intel graphics could support a 180 rotation, so I followed the instructions and in the Display section I found a box checked "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display" and unchecked it. No change. Then I located a list of graphics properties and changed the value of the menu item "flipping policy" from "flip" to "Blit". Still no change.
Another suggestion was to change values in the Registry. Namely:
Rotationcaps set to 7; Enablerotation set to 1; Rotationpolicy set to 0.
I cant find these values in my Registry.
What am I doing wrong?
Any suggestions anyone?
Thanks for reading my tale of woe.

You should have a icon in the lower right hand corner called Intel Extreme Graphic. Double click to open and that will bring up some options for your video settings. From there you should have the option to flip your screen.
If all is installed right you should be able to do this with the hotkeys, below is from the web.
Image rotation is enabled by default and is activated by the default key combination <Ctrl> + <Alt> + <F1>.
Once it is activated, you can rotate the display with the additional "Hot Keys":
<Ctrl> + <Alt> + <Right Arrow>
<Ctrl> + <Alt> + <Down Arrow>
<Ctrl> + <Alt> + <Left Arrow>
<Ctrl> + <Alt> + <Up Arrow>
To disable this Hot Key Feature, remove the check from the Enable Hot Keys selection box in the Extended Graphics properties. -
Hello Ador, I tried all you suggested but no luck.
My screen is a touch screen; does that make a diference?
My F1 and F2 keys adjust the brightness; I get to "graphics" with F12.
I read through the manual and there is no mention of screen rotation.
In the screen graphics section, I clicked on Open GL and changed Asynchronous flip from off to on; and Flipping Policy from flip to Blit; then I hit cntrl-alt- arrow down; and the screen flashed on and off three times, but no rotation. Am I on the right track?

The touchscreen is just a outside layer over the screen. So the screen hardware is the same as other pc's. I didn't look at offical manual. Just info on the graphics chipset you are using. What is your full model #? I will look at my 29 later today and a 18 to see what it's video driver looks like. Been little while since I played with them.

I have two cf 29's. The one I have been trying to rotate has the built in GPS which I want to use for my navigation and is model CF 29ETKGBKM.
I could use either model in this application, and introduce the GPS data by the serial port. My other model is CF 29E3KGZKM -
How about a different approach? Redesign the monitor mount and hang it in the proper orientation. It should be fairly easy to re hang the monitor right side up.
Or disassemble the monitor and flip the LCD. -
Or buy a CF-18/19???
-
Getting another Toughbook is not an option.
If all else fails I may try to disassemble the swivel portion of the screen. The screen rotates 90 degs relative to the base.I have already rebuilt the screen base turntable so that it will support the weight as it hangs from the ceiling . First I want to try the software approach.
Any comments regarding my initial enquiry regarding the changes to the Registry, or the availability of the program Irotate version 1.2?
In my graphics properties what is Asynchronous Flip?
What is a Flipping Policy?
What is Blip?
When I change any of these features, nothing happens. -
I haven't had time over the last few days to look but maybe a different graphics driver will work. Still looking for a software solution. Got to turn my 18 on and see what driver it's using and if the screen will rotate with out using the front button.

Been there.....kind of.
Ador, I have a 29E that I've been playing with.
I have one CF-18 driver on it. dispro (wrong one for this application) but they (CF-18 drivers) can be installed. winrar approach.
I researched and tried different updates to Intel Graphics so far no success.
What is the latest CF-18 w/ 82855? I'll look it up.
I tweaked one entry in registry and that is where I am now....or more to say what I have done to this point.
I'm wondering if a CF-74 driver might work. This 74G has rotation. Need to look up what the MK1 is using.
A white paper I read said the 82855 is capable of rotation.
That's all for now. I pick away at it now and then.
Hang in there Lawrence...
Jeff
Edit: Running CF-74 driver now in 29E. No rotate function yet. -
Your "fear"and "common sence" quote seem to apply to this situation. From what I can get from comments I have read I should proceed cautiously with making changes to the Registry, especially when I don't know what I am doing. When I looked through the comments on the Irotate forum it seemed that this problem could be resolved but I was unable to find the right links. Some people had loaded a previous version (1.2) of Irotate and found it worked for them. An Irotate technician recommended the Registry change but I was unable to find the exact criteria to make the changes.I am still "hanging in there" and you will too!

I went to Intel's site and used there auto update to update chipset and video graphic drivers to the latest. Still nothing. Do have a few more video setting options though. This is on a 29 Mk3.

O.K.
Using v 1.37 iRotate from entec........dot com.
Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME...this is a driver for a CF-74 MK1 running on a CF-29ETKGTKM
1. Loaded straightaway ...no issues....mmmmm a minor one ....the screen flipped but the touchscreen and touchpad did not.
2. iRotate modified the Extreme Graphics 2 for mobile to include rotation as seen in later Marks.
So now we need to look for the calibration flipper.
Progress.
Jeff
edit: Driver Version (Intel)6.14.10.4221 -
Thanks Jeff
I have Irotate 1.37 loaded but it doesnt work. I will try the Intel site driver upgrade and see what happens.
Things move slowly here where I am in Malaysia since the wi fi system is susceptible to the humidity and frequent lightning storms..Thanks for hanging in there with me.
If Ador reads this I have a friend here who used to work for a cell tower manufacturing company in Bossier City La.....maybe you were neighbours? -
I am only 2 hrs from Bossier City.
-
Whoopie!
I went to the Intel site and loaded the latest driver for my graphics which was 6.14.10.4497 and now I can flip the monitor screen with Irotate 1.37.
I am nearly all the way there.
I want to use the monitor (screen 2) as the primary screen and disable screen 1, but it wont let me do it,yet. It is set up as an extension of screen 1. I will continue playing with it until I find the right way to control it.
Thank you ,Gentlemen for your help
Gratefully yours

Your welcome.
The 74 driver I obtained from the Panasonic TB jp site. I used a freeware program to open it and clicked the .exe file. I'm pretty sure the more modern version helped. It looks slicker. (newer)
I sorta tested two other programs after the above. eeeRotate and another one....ummmmmm....well since this is amongst friends I'll edit this in a bit with a more coherent version. The computer I downloaded onto is at the other end of the house. I was looking for a way to automagically match calibration to flippage.
O.K.
Freeware is the sheep looking icon.....ummm there it is....Zipeg.
video_74_1_d0510446 is the Extreme Graphics 2 for Mobile.....unzip w/above and click .exe as I remember.
Ah, there it is....Sakasa Mouse .....a toy don't bother.
Eeerotate rotates to 270 but does not flip the touchpad/mouse and TS.
Some of youse guys with Updd experience kick in here. -
I entered BIOS and changed the display settings to disable the LCD and enable the monitor, and hit save and exit and it worked. Then as the boot-up process continued it reverted to the original configuration. So I went in to the new improved Intel graphics properties and it has changed from the last time I was there and there are now provisions to adjust the screen display configuration. I have disabled the LCD and I am now using the rotated monitor as my primary screen.
If anyone wants to know how I got there I can describe the trail I took.
Thanks
Time to stop having so much fun and get back in the bilge and fix some hardware. Its 92F and about the same % humidity down there.
