Ok, so I have this tablet pc from ebay I'm trying to use. I know that it may not be the right place to post it, I tryed the tablet forum but it seems like they are all dead there or maybe they are not into a rugged elecronics like we are :D so if you (Rob) need to clear it out... I understand.

Here is what I posted on the tablet pc forum...

So this had a digitizer screen and you replaced it with a touchscreen ?? If I am right you can not do that, I know someone on here tried to do that with a Toughbook CF-18 and one of the Mod's told them you could not do that if I remember right. Was your digitizer screen not working, this does take a special pen to make it work.

I replaced the digitizer screen with the touch screen unit and I download generic touch screen driver from Wacom site sense it shows Wacom on the device manager. Then I touched the screen and it worked, but it is like an inch off and i can't calibrate it.

Ah, yes, the WalkAbout Hammerheads. I worked with several different models over a number of years, including the XRTs. In fact, even in the Windows 7 on a CF-18 post, there is a credit to a WalkAbout tech for one of the Wacom digitizer tips (a number of the Hammerhead models used Wacom digitizers, too).

They used to have a site with driver downloads, even in the more recent DRS days. I've installed all drivers from a clean Tablet PC install for a Microsoft Volume License deployment, and I don't think any of the drivers were WalkAbout specific (e.g. drivers for Intel components could be downloaded from Intel's website).

Some things that were specific to WalkAbout were the BIOS and firmware. If the CD you're getting has BIOS and firmware (H8) updates more recent than this XRT has, I would highly recommend installing them.

Oh, the stories from those days.... ;-)

Do you know where can I get the parts for this slate? (e.g GSM module, bluetooth)

If you have the serial number of the XRT, I would try to contact the Florida headquarters for the latest information on parts availability. We always dealt directly with the WalkAbout for parts/service (even docks) and not with a Heartland-like entity.

I should have also mentioned earlier that WalkAbout released several utilities for the XRT, too. Those were tools that WalkAbout developed and would not be available from another company such as Intel.

I did a little digging and found that they haven't taken an earlier version of their website offline--you just need to go to the page directly.

Thank you for the link. It shows a lot about DRS. But still nothing about touchsreen drivers/support. Also, couldn't find any thing about the integrated GSM/BT module. It does says words like " FlexSpace" for GPS or GSM module and Blue Opal for BT somewhere. But no additional info all over the net.

Right, we didn't go through any resellers; I would try to contact WalkAbout directly for current parts availability.

Thanks for the info. but before I'm dealing with new parts I would like to have this slate to work right. I got the drivers CD and I'm trying to get it work. :D
