This is the first one I have seen that is so close to the cool drives. I know when I did the SATA mod I checked ebay but many were close but they had to much "stuff" on the board and you just don't have a lot of room to spare in the caddy so we stuck with the cooldrives. If you are going to do this mod you will lose a lot of the foam in the caddy. If you get it to work on the first try.......I will hate you ;) It took me at least 4 try's before the BIOS found my HDD. I found that the HDD was pushing to hard against the cooldrive so I ended up taking almost all the foam out on each end of the caddy  .Good Luck. Also it will take at least 3-4 weeks shipping time for then to get it to u.

I have purchased things from Asia before, so I expected the wait.
My CF 29 is in pieces on my desk at the moment. I am in no hurry. I have 3 CF 50's I need to build for people. My 29 is in a holding pattern while I collect more parts. Good news is that with this adapter, I can sell the existing 40g drive and get a huge SATA for it. I am working on a oem WWAN setup to add to it along with the VIP I just added. Bad news is that the longer it's apart the more things I find to do to it.

When I do the conversion, I am planning on saving the original foam and cutting a substitute. Perhaps one of those silicone drive holders.

My try was per official 29 thread post 433 removing the 2 black foam piece and the 90 degree bracket. Only additional foam piece neutered was the rear green one on the pull tab side. After that slowly pressing the HDD against the back and gently pressing the connector end in. I used a Flathead to pull the lip back on the bottom half to give additional clearance for the connector to pass. Bios saw it 1st try. My temps via SpeedFan 4.41 and speccy apps showed the faster spinning 320GB SATA was not too far from the IDE 40GB and 80 GB it replaced.

This adapter will be fine if those connector on it will be at the same side of it. I have one unit of this that I am trying to remove the sata connector and place it at the other side so that space will not be a problem and no need to take out any foam on the caddy. I mean no modification on the caddy.

Hmm.. I have not had my caddy apart yet. Is the cable long enough to fold it over and connect it from the drive side? Please keep us posted how this works. Photos if possible. I am working on building a hot air solder / desolder setup. If this works for you, I am going to move the SATA connector on mine.

When you say no mods, that also includes that 90 degree piece of metal on the top half staying intact?

Yeah it started to break free after a few days and I didn't feel like re gluing it. Bumper sticker remover for 20 seconds and it looked brand new again.

Adam....Yup! you've got a lot of space to earn if we can relocate those sata connector.
