SD Slot on CF-19FJGAAAM

Maybe someone knows this....

Have the CF-19FJGAAAM with Windows 8.1 installed. Everything, everything works, but the SD Slot. On my MK4, the SD card works fine. The SD card worked fine in Windows 7 on the MK2, until I installed 8.1. I run 64 Bit on all. Just to make sure it was still working, I used Linux provided by one of the masters in this forum, Shawn. Under Linux, the SD card works fine under that new release!

I have tried driver after driver, different configs for both the SD host adapter, and the Storage controller. The big difference on my Mk4 and MK2, the MK4 shows SD Storage Class Controller under Storage Controllers in Device Manager. It does not show this in the MK2, however the other entries are the same.

Ideas?

Force install the win 7 driver that worked.

 

Yes, tried this. I disabled driver signing in advanced options, however, it still will not load. A good challenge awaits me!!!

Read those threads as part of my research, I went all the way down to just a 128 MB card to see. That is the one I saw in Linux with no problems.

Somewhere, between Win 7 and Win 8.1, the SD Slot got jacked up in a driver. Win 10 works fine.

Something is not jiving between the two controllers.

Okay,

Been doing many checks all of the recommendations, looked all posts and followed the trail down to this. I have Intel ICH8 Family USB Universal Host Controllers installed on the MK2. Could there lay the issue? I have tried different versions of MK3, 4,5, and 6 SD installs and none have worked. It will not recognize the SD Slot, even though it has power and blinks when I insert a card. The PCMCIA adapters do work, which I believe are on the same board as the SD Slot.

I am still trouble shooting, but it looks like Win 8.1 does not like something that Win 7 did.

I'll keep working at it and I appreciate all of the avenues of exploration to get this figured out and offer solutions to others, not only in this forum, but across the board!!!!!

 

did you do a clean install of win8.1 or an upgrade from win7?

The link from Microsoft talks about win8.1 and the sd card.
It is a known problem of win8.1 not recognizing the sd card. problem for many brands of computers.

 

I installed 7, and then upgraded to 8 via disk, then upgraded to 8.1 via downloaded updater. I don't have the 8.1 64 bit hard copy full edition, I was eligible for the upgrade to 8.1 because I have Win 8 Pro.

 

Thats fine.
The step by step upgrade path usually eliminates basic driver issues.

 

Okay, downloaded the Win 8.1 and Win 10 Pro 64 Bit versions. I do have both the 8.1 key, as well as my Win 10 key. Luckily I have not installed too much on this 19 FJ sled.

I will start with a total, clean install of win 8.1 with Mk4 drivers and see what happens. Next I'll do same if it does not get SD Slot up and running under Mk5, then Mk6, and then I will go back to Mk3 if all fails. If ALL fails, I'll re-image, and do a Win 10 64 bit install and see what happens....

I love having the extra 19, and 5 operating systems (32 and 64 Bit) to test on while waiting for my "parts" machine from Canada!!! Keeps me mind working fully!!!

Anyways, Toughbook and toughasnails nailed it!!! Do research!!!!! Ask questions, not hacks, cracks, serials and passwords!!!

 

After all the researching, I have wiped the SSD and re-installed Win 7 Ult 64 Bit. Then I installed the Pani Driver Package for Win 7 64 Bit MK IV. All of the buttons, SD Slot, EVERYTHING, is working perfectly. Somewhere in the Win 8.1 and/or Win 10 on a MK III, it does not like any of the other driver packages from Pani and the MS ones don't work.

What is very interesting, is that when I look at my MK IV driver for the SD Storage controller, it shows it as "migrated". The MK IV came with Win 7 32 Bit. I installed a 64 Bit being a MS TechNet guy and then the Pani drivers. I then went to 8, and then 8.1, and finally to Win 10 as an MS Win 10 Insider. Doing this process on the MK IV, everything still works fine.

I think something in the hardware on the MK III will not update to a newer driver, thus not recognizing the fact that an SD slot is installed.

Again, thanks for input!! Panasonic does recommend Windows 7!!!!

 

I think this may be the way to get SD card to work on Mk II version with Win 8.1. I have 7 n that one and I'm not playing with it for the time being..........


How to Disable Driver Signature Enforcement in Windows 10/8/7 64-Bit

In 64-bit operating systems starting with Windows Vista, Windows will load a kernel-mode driver only if the driver is signed. It was designed to prevent unsigned device drivers (or kernel modules in general) from being loaded and executed. After installing an unsigned device driver, it will always result in a blue screen of death during the startup process.

The problem is that many devices ship with unsigned drivers. Today, we’ll show you 2 methods to disable Driver Signature Enforcement in Windows 10, 8, 7 (64-bit) so you can then install / load unsigned drivers without problems.

Option 1: Disable Driver Signature Enforcement Completely

Open a Command Prompt with admin privileges. In Windows 10 or 8, just press the Windows key + X and then select “Command Prompt (Admin)”.
Type in the following command and press Enter.
bcdedit /set testsigning on
You should receive “The operation completed successfully” message.

Close the Command Prompt and restart your computer. From now on, you will be able to install or run any unsigned driver without problems.
If you need to enable the Driver Signature Enforcement again, run this command instead:
bcdedit /set testsigning off

 

Another issue with being in test mode, is as soon as you set it back to "non-test" mode, it resets all the drivers. Leave it in "test" and remove the watermarks, spelled out below. I did it and it worked flawlessly!!!



OPTION TWO

Remove "Test Mode" Watermark without Turning Off Test Mode
1. Go to the Softpedia link below, and download My WCP Watermark Editor.
Download My WCP Watermark Editor 1.1.0


2. Run the downloaded My_WCP_Watermark_Editor.exe file.
3. If prompted by UAC, then click/tap on Yes.
4. Do step 5 or 6 below for what you would like to do.
5. To Remove Watermark
A) Check the Remove all watermark box at the top, click/tap on Apply new settings, and go to step 7below. (see screenshot below)


6. To Restore Default Settings
A) Click/tap on Restore default settings, and go to step 7 below. (see screenshot above)

7. When finished, click/tap on Done, Click for reboot, after reboot reset your wallpaper to see all change. (see screenshot below)


8. When your computer finishes restarting, reset your wallpaper to see the change.
