I have a CF-31 Mk2. Win7 32 bit, 1TB SSD, GOBI 2000, GPS. SD reader for some reason has quit working. And I can't figure out how to get it to read SD cards. Checked BIOS. Checked device manager. Have tried 3 known good cards that will read in my printer. Doesn't even show up in explorer under computer. What are my options?

Sounds like the card reader went bad. The only other thing you can try is reloading Windows, doubt it will fix it though

Are the cards in a standard format?
Windows usually won't read odd formats such as ones used by Linux or OS-X -
You could run Linux by it making sure ntfs3g is installed. Without ntsf3g it won't SEE the SDXC.
LINUX HERE:
There are three or four hardware tests to do.
Code:1) Check the outputs of the commands sudo lspci -v -nn, sudo lsusb, and sudo lshw on the command line. Here is a good guide for understanding lshw which lists an example SD Card reader. 2) Then run the following command before inserting the SD card and a few seconds after inserting it: ls -la /dev/sd*. This command lists all of the hard drives, CDs, DVDs, floppies, SD cards, etc that Ubuntu knows about. (These are called Block Devices).
Were the cards formatted with a camera?
W 7 "should" read NTFS. Linux must have the extra driver above. (ntfs3g)
NTFS (New Technology File System) is a proprietary journaling file system developed by Microsoft. ... NTFS is supported in other desktop and server operating systems as well. Linux and BSD have a free and open- source NTFS driver, called NTFS-3G, with both read and write functionality.

Sorry I got so windy. It's easier than it looks.
SD reader is probably broken. Good luck.UNCNDL1 likes this. -
