I read of a patch for SD cards over 1GB. Have any of you seen such a critter. I have been searching the Pana sites with no joy. I removed and restored SD Utility 1.5V10 in \Util, set bios to defaults. Switched ports on and off. Removed/re-enabled in Device Manager. Comes up DEVICE READY FOR USE. No show in My Computer.

I don't have a smaller card to test with at this time. Any other ideas?

CF-18NHHMBBM The one with the new Touch Screen. Using SANDISK SDHC 4GB.
    Works in 29MK4 ,5 and CF-30.

My memory is vague but I think it was CAP who first cued us in on the card limitation (and/or type?)... or was that in the 29??? Perhaps he'll chime in later.

SD is recognized but the mealy mouthed XP won't read cards that are formatted on another O.S. even those formatted for ANY O.S FAT32??. The Other OS will read anything. Hmmmmm, which OS will I use?

Is there a way to fool XP? I'm working on this, film at eleven. (People under 40 don't know what this means)

    Thanks TC,

    Jeff

    p.s. deere.....where do you FIND these sites.lol

Ya gotta love any site called antifart. Farts are bad. I think that needs to be in my sig.

I tend to be very persistent. I have
trouble knowing when to give up. I Google things to death. I should have chosen researching as a career.

Since SP3 worked I did not use your suggestion for my little problem. Maybe next time.

    Thank you though.

There is a Microsoft patch which will solve the problem in SP2, it will definitely work on the CF-18 and the CF-29-30 if you chose to not upgrade to SP3. I have it if any one needs it. Its an OS issue, not a driver issue. Looked it up: MS Hotfix "WindowsXP-KB934428-v3x86"

Is this a custom mod done inside the case? If so, and you take pics along the way, I would be VERY interested in seeing them! I love seeing what you guys come up with and how you do it!!

    rt,
The SD reader came stock on my unit. Mark 5. I don't know when they changed. Do a Google search for CF-18NHHMBBM. The reader sits below the PCMCIA ports inside the left hand door. Someone can tell you when they started.
On the CF 29 the Mark 4 and 5 have SD and a difference in the Motherboard connectors to take it.
    They are really handy.

Before the barrage of this link doesn't work posts.
Links won't work unless you copy paste. Direct click doesn't work.

Tried this on my CF30 mk1 and it works! Had to run actual install program, not just drivers, not that they loaded anyway...but pulled my 4gig micro SD out of my phone, put in adapter, wouldnt read...installed prog, reads and opens it now. thanks a million! Going to try it on my wifes CF18 in a bit.

    Another issue with SD readers.
The interesting thing is I had been running Linux right along. The SD was recognized whether photos or files. Then when I but the FAT formated SD in xp....on the same dual boot machine by the way... xp wouldn't see it. "DO YOU WANT TO FORMAT THIS DEVICE" or words to that effect.
I'll mess with that a bit. This was not on the CF-18.
Looks like I may have to format in xp and then use in linux or xp. Now why does the sd from the camera work? Film at eleven.
The camera SD is read by both systems.
The SD formatted on/by Linux is rejected by XP.
The same SD quick formatted by XP is read by both XP and Linux.
Punch line: If you intend to use an SD reader on an XP machine format it via XP.
Image 1 camera format, 2 is Linux formatted,3 same SD xp quick format.

As a guy who has used a lot of digital camera's, they all recommend you format the cards in the camera. Otherwise you will have errors and problems.

Good point. And I am in total agreement.

My issue is swapping files back and forth including photos with SDs that are not associated with the camera.

    Thanks deere

Format all your cards in a camera even if you don't intend to use them in the camera. The camera format is read by all the OS's so use the camera instead of a pc to format your digital media.
