So I got my 128GB Kingspec SSD today, and plugged it into my Sabrent USB to IDE/SATA cable, and the cable into my CF-18MK4.

I then proceeded to copy the drive with CopyWipe for windows (tried all 3 modes).

Upon installation, the HDD LED says lit constantly, and takes a good 2-3 minutes for the computer to tell me there is no operating system found.

The BIOS reports Primary Master as 127 GB.

Windows sees the drive via USB just fine.

I removed the master/slave jumper, just for giggles, and the BIOS would not see it at all, but windows still would.

I am at the end of my knowledge.

    Help?

    Brian :(

    what version of windoze?

    1) boot a windows cd and see if it finds the previous windoze install. if it does let windoze try to repair it,

    2) format the drive and try to boot a windows cd and see if it will do a fresh install.

    3) it also may need fat 32 for some odd reason.

    Running Windoze XP Tablet 2005.

I do not have the original set of discs, or an original Windoze CD ov any flavor…

    Thanks for the suggestions, though…

OK, not giving up on the 18, BUT got a good deal on a CF19MK1 today (with 50 hours!)

I am in need of a caddy with cable/connector.

    I have a hard drive.

    Help!

Will take a look at the forum…

I think there is an issue between the CF-18MK4 and my Kingspec SSD.

Multiple imaging attempt result in a constant light, and nothing from the computer.

Works fine on a usb adaptor.

Tried in my MK1 with the factory restore discs, and with the SSD in the computer (caddy) it would not boot to the USB CD (bios boot order set correctly)

SSD in external usb adaptor configuration, all is happy…

SO, if there is no BIOS update, I will consider this a failed experiment…

    Maybe the CF-19 will like it…. :(

If I remember right some of the earlier made kingspec ssd's had problems with toughbooks, to the point where the ebay sellers had it on their page it wouldn't work with a toughbook. About a year later they were working. Not sure if yours is one of those earlier ones, or their is a new batch out that doesn't work.

You are going to love the 19. I am up to a Mk3 right now.

Ebay is you best bet. Stay away from the China ones, most don't have the cable with it for $59.99 and the cable cost almost $50.00 from Heartland services + s/h and also shipping from China takes 3-4 weeks. Heartland Services did want around $88.00 + $20.00 shipping for the caddy. The USA sellers have them for $76.99 which is the going rate for them. cf-19 caddy | eBay

SSD manufacturers? I've had good results with Samsung, less good with OCZ and I'm using Intel 320's in my 19. I think at the moment both Samsung and Intel are at the top of the game. Heard decent things about Sandisk as well, but no first hand experience with those.

The CF19 is really nice. I'm using a bit later version, mk5, but I'm really happy with how it works and how strong & stable it has been. It's much easier to upgrade & adapt the 19 when compared to the 18. (better availability of the parts etc).
Perhaps you would want to buy 2 caddies. A bit expensive, but I've did it as well: a second hand used caddy with an SSD for experimenting, installing not so reliable software and other things. The other caddy has an identical SSD but is for work and stays much safer. But that might be a bit overkill for you.
